Good morning,

I just discovered an insurance company that finally gave me a price I can wanted for the coverage that I will need for a 1299. So the long desired 1299 is finally in reach for me. I currently have a 2014 Monster 1200 S.

I'm a big boy, 5'10'' 300 lbs, and not all muscle. I have test ridden the 1299 S and loved it but that was only a 30 minute test ride. (I will test ride the 1299 (non S) for a much longer time before getting it.) I was really comfortable on the 1299S but of course there was more wrist pressure. I could deal with it but here's a couple questions.

Thoughts about big dudes on this bike? (besides that I'm going to look like a monkey F***ing a basket ball)

Thoughts about bar risers? (don't be lame at suggest a multistrada or another bike I want the 1299)

Thoughts about other ergo changes?

Overall ownership thoughts of the bike?

just respring the bike with heavy springs for the weight.

bar risers are an option and there are also replacement handlebars from Speedymoto that are bent at an angle that you can rotate around to get the bar riser like experience without having to buy new clip ons.

the stock seat slopes at an angle towards the tank, the DP touring and race seat are more flat so it's a lot more comfortable, especially on the boys under braking.

overall thoughts?......BUY IT NOW!

If you want the Panigale, get it. There will be a period of adjustment, how long depends on how much you ride. In time change the parts you need to make the bike conform to your body and your riding style. If possible, work on your core muscles to take pressure of your writs. Ride the hell out of the machine and enjoy every moment .

I do know there are some members on here about your size that love the bike they have. I also know there are a few on here with bar risers that work really well for them.

Buy it. It is an amazing bike. I am heavier too, about 6' 250 and its still mind blowing speed. Like others will tell you, after a long ride it will start to wreck havoc on your wrists, so some core strengthening is definitely advised. I was coming off a KTM RC8r and this is light years away from that.

Thanks for the very positive feedback, me and one of my riding buddies laughed because everyone said 'buy it' lol. Is there a thread here about the speedymoto bars?

I fingered the comfort seat right next to the stock seat - - the comfort seat is a must. I love the stock seat on my Monster, I just got off a 275 mile trip from here (Dallas-Fort Worth) to the Oklahoma border and back and my butt is fine. Really excited about getting one. Now I just need to find one.

When I got my bike in 2012, the first mod was the DP tail tidy. Then I got the comfort seat which has way more padding. But after two rides I sold it to a guy on here. It sat me higher and increased the pressure on my wrists. I modified a stock seat with a different cover, added gel and lowered it. Try the search for speedy moto or just look up their website.

I'm 6' and 280 lbs and it has more than enough power for your size. I love it! Honestly I am amazes, someone who is at average race weight can handle this bike on race mode and most of the rider aids off.

He's not going to be looking at himself so who cares . . . buy it, ride it.

After six months I've adapted to the pressure on the wrists fairly well. My throttle hand was getting numb, and I figured out I needed to press down on the left hand, which effectively balanced the pressure. I was told to hold the grips like a screwdriver, and not press down. So I agree that it takes time to know how to be comfortable. I would suggest waiting to make any mods.

The turning radius at parking lot speeds is large. It's easy to hit the steering limiter. Watch out for that. Yes, I dropped it. I don't think I could have passed my motorcycle driving test on this bike. I was required to do a U-turn with my feet up. With this bike I'm usually doing 3 point turns with my feet down. A nit, but one to be aware of.

I have the 1299S, but I'm pretty sure I would have been equally happy with the base model. No way to know for sure. It's hard to figure out by reading forums since people have such a wide variety of experiences and opinions. Part of what I love about the bike is the learning curve. Knowing how to ride and enjoy this bike is very rewarding.

Good luck making your choice.
