one screw on the mounting latch was missing by the way...

replace the aluminum shield with carbon fiber? or wrap the ugly part with exhaust wrap, for the raw racey look?

That is absolutely disgusting workmanship Phil. I am appalled at how they would let that go out!

I am not a good welder myself, but i never did this kind of .....

Yeah that's pretty bad. But I guess that isn't meant to be seen and ducati felt that so as long as it does the job and hold it together then it's fine.

Wonder if you will find this type of workmanship on unseen parts on a Ferrari or rolls? (wouldn't surprise me if you did).
 
it's not rust, it's the coloring of the SS from the heat.

i guess these were young welders, not those who did the steel frames of the previous models ;)

i guess this is where the economics plays in. not visible but functional. make it work (gas tight) and then put a cover over it.
