Sometimes I miss my 1198s ... it was such a beautiful bike ....it was so unpredictable, I never knew if the ..... would leave me stranded somewhere and breakdown:p, but that's what gave me sort of a rush, like playing Russian roulette with an Italian gun:eek:
Anyone else miss there 1*98S, R

I never owned one PA but rode one. I nearly bought a new 1198SP but then waited for the 1199S. The SP looks great with the sliver stripe on the tank and gloss front guard.

I like the sound of the 1098 engine the most.

You are right about the "character" though - hard starts, problem with hot starts, hoppy rear when downshifting, etc -, but I love it !!!

Nice, but by today's standards, the rear is a little wide.

So many things are like that ;)

I was always going to get an SP as the model was running out.

Then the arrival of the 1199 was immanent so I went with the 1199 S instead.
I already had the SFS so I have really not lost anything now that I have both;)

They are both such great rides:)

Nope. The 1198 did nothing better than far cheaper bikes with suspension upgrades. The 1199, 916 (race tail monopostal only) are still my favorite lookers.

The Panigale fixed everything that was wrong about that bike. Especially the mid range hit that made it so hard to ride. (and people want that kick back in the 1299?)

Never owned one or rode one, but damn they were very sexy during their time. What I really love about the bike was how much it dominated WSBK racing throughout its lifespan. WSBK, FIM Superstock 1000, that bike won everything multiple times. The way Carlos Checa destroyed the field in 2011 with it was extremely impressive.

It was that bike that made me fall in love with Ducati. It just happened the Panigale was announced when I we ready to push the button on a 2 year old 1198 :)

Beautiful bike/pic!

this... 100x... I love that style... 848/1098/1198 so much love there.. rode my buddies 1098s and fell in love.. soon as I got ready to pull the trigger on a 1098s myself the panigale was announced I waited 1 more year and bam!

hell I jump on my wifes 848evo every now and again

The 1198 isn't bad looking, but immediately looks dated as soon as its next to the Panigale.

Yes it did.

I wonder what the replacement for the Panigale will look like when it finally arrives?

I hope it's a V4 so then I'll be tempted to add it to the stable:D

Not a 1198 but the previous model. I still have mine and have no intention on getting rid of her. I love the confusion others give from the sound of the dry clutch. Aside from the fried voltage regulator, she has been a pleasure to ride.

My favorite is the 1198 corse, was going to buy but last year thought that the base Panigale is miles ahead of the best 1198, but I still think the best looking is the 1098/1198!

I miss drooling over my 1098S Tricolore. Sexy lines but the ride quality & ergos were not even in the same class as the Panigale R.

I have to agree with the lot of the comments regarding the 1098. I love riding the 1098 then the 1199 then the 998S bayliss. All the bikes are different.

Beautiful bikes but mercy my buddy's 1098S was a huge steaming turd if I've ever seen one.

It's left him stranded more than a few times. Hard starts, fuel issues, you name it. The thing sounded beautiful and was great fun to ride but I personally wouldn't touch a 1x98 series.

I absolutely love the looks of the 1198 over the Panigale. For me, it's the trellis frame and the projector headlights... Yeah, she's a fat looking girl compared to the 1199... but I still have a thing for the 1198.

As for riding, they are 2 different bikes. My buddy has the 1198, and we swap rides every once in a while. My bike is more comfortable, but it's not a bad feel on the 1198 either.

If I could have a stable of bikes... I'd have both in that stable!
