Hi guys,
as many of you know, i have been experimenting on getting more out of the stock cans.

This adventure has lead me to 1. offer the service here and 2. still riding around with the experimental set of cans since ~2500 miles (including 3 track days).

What you will get:
Your exhaust, ~1.5 lb lighter, got rid of the catalytic converters and the dB killers.
It will allow the gases to exit better, you will receive the popping while decelerating and upshifting with the QS (and i mean POP!), sight effects might be lower temperatures from the exhaust, as less resistance is in the system (no scientific evidence).
Also the sound will change drastically. It will be a loud bark, and i don't want to bring up any comparisons with any products on the market, but i tell you, it is LOUD and you will love it. Maybe some members around here, who have already heard it (Charliem90, Evo-L, bellissimoto, weltonrk, veck, ...) will give a note on their impression.

the mods themselves are all in the thread in detail (http://ducati1199.com/mechanical-technical/935-core-stock-exhaust.html)

just an excerpt (please don't mind the visible welds and the black paint coming off the sleeves, these won't be on the modded exhausts): ( i am looking into ceramic coating though, this might turn up as an option)

i had it on the dyno back to back with the stock cans and also the tuneboy ECU flash. all on the same day, on the same dyno. you can see the phone # of Cycle specialties in the upper right, if you want, give them a call about this.

the green line is the modded cans without any trim files on the ECU. you get more power in the lower rpms, there is still a hesitation in the mid before the full power takes off in the higher rpms. i recommend using a tuneboy/rexxer/ powercommander/ whatever with it, just for the potential gains, when you look at the blue line. O2 levels are all on the safe side and nowhere lean, so running it without reflash is also possible (what i have also done before the tuneboy).

this is how it goes:

starting the process i will need your email address, to send you the agreement for you to sign. there you can choose several options.

i will send you a playlist link on youtube for the removal of the cans. (if you don't want your dealer to do it). take it off. (you can stop by my place and let me do it (Greenville, SC area), but the bike will have to stay here 'til the welding is done)

then check shipping rates to 29681, here: Postage Price Calculator

go to select shape --> package, enter weight (20 lb), on next page put in size of your box, (you'll need 28x15x12 approx.) and on next page click display all options (standard shipping should be ~$26 online price, or choose faster services if you want), take that price and add it to the option on the agreement from me (for my return shipment to you). $390 for cats&dB killer removal and the gilles. [edit: price change from 340, as the welder charges me 90 instead of the assumed 40, and the only alternative quoted me 200]

send it via paypal (you can make it a gift if you trust me to reduce paypal fees)

then take pictures of your exhaust from all sides before shipping (insurance). pack it really well (it's heavy) and send it to me. you will see my address in the paypal.

i promise to start working on it the day i get it and return it asap.

Cheers, enjoy your killer sound soon.

I've heard them in person. Under hard throttle going up the hill from Crossroads at Deal's Gap a month back.
Very nice. Throaty/boomy/lots of bass (without being painful loud like you'd hear from a cruiser straight pipe - yeah, you know the kind of pain I'm talkin' about!).

Nice sound. I'll be having it done over holidays between Thanksgiving-Christmas (when I don't expect there will be too many weekend ride opportunities).

I'll be getting this mod as well. Just have to find a time when I wont be riding.

Holy crap those sound great Phil! If I understood the Killboy video correctly, they are louder and deeper than the Termignoni slip-ons, is that right?

I didn't see a total cost in your post, what is it aside from the shipping charges?

Lastly, any update on the ceramic coating? I really would like a black exhaust.

My OEM slip-ons are ready to go, sitting in my garage :)

edited my post. so much text and forgot the most important info:
$390 for cats&dB killer removal and the gilles.

for the ceramic coating: i would prefer if you get it done externally, on your behalf. just as i have to admit i have no experience in this, nor the equipment.
(i mean i have a compressor, and at work an oven for 500F) just not sure about it.

Charlie mentioned Motor Paint, as he wants the gilles black (what reminds me, i wanted to heat them with the torch and check the outcome...), i don't know how that would work for the whole exhaust...

i can look up a ceramic coater in the area and check their prices, this will add some handling cost and the coating price also, of course.

Glad I asked! That's a good deal. So you think they are deeper and louder than the Termi slips? That is a good thing for me.

Can you give quotes for both the Motor Paint and Ceramic Coating as line item options?

Thanks again and I hope you do a ton of these. For $2K (which is not what I paid), I'm not that impressed with the Termi slip ons. If I go with your coring and coating of the OEM cans, I'm probably going to put them up for sale.

Yes - the $390 will not make me rich, there's a lot of work involved (and expensive cutting discs and tungsten carbide drills)

yes. they are louder and deeper!!! would not ride the bike without good ear plugs! especially on longer rides!!!

i will research the pricing on these and add them to the agreement i send out before the job gets started.

Perfect, exactly what I'm looking for. Please also update this thread with the coating options so potential buyers can make there decision right here.

Thanks!

got me a can of this, will report how well it works.

the oven at work right now won't reach the 600F for the 3rd cycle... gotta be creative.

thing is with ceramic coating the gilles, they need to be bent a little bit to be put in position. hopefully this won't let the CC crack...

Rode with Phil at Roebling a few weeks ago and I must say with my bad hearing and eye plugs in I heard Phil breathing down my neck. NICE SOUND..will be dropping my off over the winter:D

I will definitely be shipping mine to you, most likely early next year! Can't wait to ride with them next Spring!

P.S. I forget if you answered this or not, but did the tuneboy deal with any of the rideability issues at lower speed, or the jumpy throttle at lower speeds?

hard to tell for me, as i have the 14T front sprocket installed and have had no throttle problems ever since...

but with the tuneboy it's great to ride, especially the punch from low rpm's

Hi Phil,
I read your article with great interest. Lots of guys are changing to termi's here in europe so there are a lot of standard cans available. Time for some experimenting.
I'll do it myself because the shipping to and from the states is outrages.
Questions. Did you also consider making a removable db killer instead of the mess frame? Over here we have big issues when riding on the race tracks with to much "noise" and no db killers. What is the use of the mess frame? Is it purely for the looks?

Do you have a picture of the muffler with the cat?
I recon that removing the cat is more than sufficient to get the gasses flowing or would it be interesting of making more passage to the rear?

By the way has anyone seen the interior design of the termi or akrapovic muffler?
I was thinking of welding a bend tube on the outlet side of the muffler so I can get a db-killer inside for the "quite" track days. (We also have level 3 track days with higher allowed noise levels but these are getting less and less.)
Finally I still have 2 PCV's lying around so I'll do a full tuning after the modification. Done this a few times before and just tunes the mod to it's maximum potential.

I'll post some info later on or look at my site for the present project:

Questions. Did you also consider making a removable db killer instead of the mess frame? no, but that's a good idea. I rather thought of utilizing the flapper valve for partial noise reduction... Over here we have big issues when riding on the race tracks with to much "noise" and no db killers. i know. that's why i moved here :D:D:D What is the use of the mess frame? Is it purely for the looks? yes.

Do you have a picture of the muffler with the cat? let me see...
I recon that removing the cat is more than sufficient to get the gasses flowing or would it be interesting of making more passage to the rear? that's what's included in my mod.

By the way has anyone seen the interior design of the termi or akrapovic muffler? yes. there is a thread on ceramic coating, there you can see all single components of the termi. none of the cheapstakes with the akrapovic wanted to open one up yet :p:confused:

(We also have level 3 track days with higher allowed noise levels but these are getting less and less.) there is an aftermarket solution available for the stock cans, can't recall it right now. you can always get a japanese 1199 exhaust :D

price change to $390 for all future exhausts, the welder doubled his price ...
the only other alternative around quoted 200 for the welding...

First modded exhaust is already in Arkansas, second one going to be handed over in person to fellow member weltonrk.

So far quite some interest, though i am not sure if i will continue doing this. It's a dirty, hard job and pays less than my day-job.

I have 4 mesh covers left, so 2 more exhaust will be modded. For another batch i will need 5 orders lined up.

Hi phil found the other articles as well. Thanx for the info. I have mine striped and will put two paralele perforated tubes in which run to the back compartiment and then back to the outlet. I only wonder if the termignoni have damping wool around the perforated pipes? Would be tricky because it not practical after the mufflers have been welded again. So i think i'll only have a baffle welded between the two pipes.
