Casey Stoner Ducati Team MotoGP Motegi 2016 - Ducati will present at Motegi with only Andrea Dovizioso , as already wrote yesterday in fact, Andrea Iannone has given package , postponing his return to Phillip Island, next to the Japanese race.
The background, unveiled by Sporting Director Paolo Ciabatti to Gazzetta dello Sport, is that the Ducati had asked Casey Stoner to replace Iannone, but the Australian said no.
"We asked Stoner to take the place of Andrew, but declined - said Paolo Ciabatti - And there will be not even in Australia, in the event that Iannone does not make it."
A decision to Stoner that follows the "no" said the Austrian Grand Prix, but that clashes with the Australian's will to run when he was at Honda in 2015.
Some will remember the controversy in Austin, when after the "no" of the Japanese, Stoner made a tweet riding a Honda road (custom) by writing "Thanks for giving me Nerang Team Moto Honda to ride for this weekend! :)" in Italian "sounds" like this "Thanks to the Team Bike Nerang for giving me a Honda with which to run this weekend."

Fair dinkum mate.
His time is over (by his choice). He has principles and is sticking to them.

I would've loved to see what Stoner can do with this year's Ducati GP machine and Race competitors.. but he let his fans / Ducati fans down. Not surprised.

I think he is a very realistic guy, coming out at the end of the year, after years off the bike would not be good. These guys running every week are FAST, even the last place guys. Look at Hayden's one race return, he was pretty much a rolling chicane out there.
All he would end up doing is taking some luster off his shining memory.

LMAO....Let Ducati and his fans down, yea right, he won us a World Championship on a Ducati.
At least he could ride it :D

of course another Ausy defends Stoner. Does not mean he can now but I am interested to see. :D

He is talented rider. I never said he was not, but I did say he is a ......

Ok great Stoner did 6 years ago and so what? we are talking about 2016 and I want to see him and Marquez and other riders go at it.

I am pretty sure Stoner's fan would've loved to see him ride in Australia? no?

There is a reason not to ride it and that is his family, that is what he cares about the most and I for one respect his decision not to ride.
He came back at Suzuka and crashed, shook him up a bit and he has said no more after that.

I could name a heap of riders i would like to see ride again and sometimes I do, but not at the top of the racing class which is MotoGP.
When someone calls a rider a ..... who has made it to the top of their field in bike racing, must be a ..... or a ..... himself.

I wont get defensive on "must be a ..... or a ..... himself" since I wont go into my background and what I do. Racing is not the only thing that defines courage or bravery.

I think its funny how you are passive/aggressively calling names instead.

I did not know about Stoner saying no more. Isn't he still test riding for Ducati? if he is so worry about his safety and his family then Quit all together.

Test riding isn't as dangerous or stressful as racing...
Would be good seeing him race again, but he doesn't test ride that much as per the interview with Dovi. It sounds to me he's only a part-time test rider so my guess is Ducati hired him primarily for a marketing reason, to spark the Ducati fans, and to lure a championship winner (this case Lorenzo) by setting fast test laps to imply that their Desmo RR is a competitive package. Definitely worked.

Stoner is a hell of a rider no doubt. That being said, to me he seems to have a bit of a difficult time when the conditions are not steril to his liking. Stoner will never risk being thrown in the "has been" category. He will never race GP unless he thinks he can win and right now he doesn't. It's that simple. You ask Nick or Colin to fill in and the first thing they say is "I'm honored" knowing damn well that the odds of them being on the podium are slim. Not Stoner. It's all pride and ego with him. Again he is a hell of a rider probably unrivaled in some respects but as fierce a warrior as he is when he is in contention, he is equally as fragile. The "family" thing holds zero water. The guy stands just as much chance at jeopardizing life and limb doing that as racing. The "test rider" status allows him to do what he really wants to do without fear of stones being hurled at the glass house.

fair enough about test riding vs racing.

He has been racing and winning since he was 4 yrs old, his dream was to win a world title, he won 2.

He retired from Racing to get on with another chapter in his life, but so many people have trouble understanding this so calling him names or whatever, seems to be the next best thing for them.

The guy did wonders on the Ducati and so far nobody has come close to what he did.....I thought we are all here because of our passion for Ducati's not to bag someone that has done Ducati proud.

So here we go for some of you that have trouble understanding him HE IS F>>>CKING RETIRED.......COMPRA ??? :D

I get it. My comment was taken a bit out of context. Put more accurately, one would be hard pressed to argue that one can get hurt rather severely doing something such as riding a motorcycle at high speeds. That being said if he was that concerned about life and limb he would have mandated a desk job. He didn't. The kid loves to go fast on motorcycles. Pretty simple. I think the PR thing is valid for sure. Just seems a bit weird that you have a factory who employs a rider who may be faster than your two full time hired guns but he doesn't race. I'm hard pressed to replicate that scenarios anywhere. It's like having a 6'8" high school freshman who doesn't want to play basketball. It's just weird.

Wallaroo. We get it but if Stoner had the chance to race GP today and he had a solid chance of winning that race I guarantee you that he would tilt out of retirement just a little.

Weird? I find it hilarious, and kind of makes it appear that the bike isn't the issue, but the riders haha. Makes you feel bad for the Andreas really.
I reckon Ducati does want Stoner to race and are slowly tempting him to race at least once, because they know their fans, and the MotoGP followers would love it. I know I would :D

Exactly

I miss Troy Bayliss. lol

Lets not forget that he was willing to fill in for Pedrosa, after he 'retired' so a wild card is definitely not ruled out :D
