Surging issues

I love my bike but I am having issues with surging at low RPM's. I am sure I am not the first one on here that has had this issue and this is my fourth Ducati so the surging is very different from what I have noticed on other models.

Is this typical of this bike and if so, what is the fix? I have installed a Termi slip on and the map that came with it. Is the rapid bike unit the solution?

Thanks

IMO, the best "fix" has been the addition of a 41T rear sprocket and using the 195hi setting.

Play with the EBC settings. I thought it was a bit less when set to 0, and the sound when downshifting was epic...but I did notice a little less stability when aggressively downshifting.

Raw dog, the RapidBike module will cure the surging issues. Call Cycle Pro and speak with Yaman and mention my name and he will hook you up. I had the 41t sprocket installed and also played with the different modes on the bike as well. It wasn't fixed until i had the RB module installed. It's a no brainer.

Not sure how much RabidBike is but my TuneBoy allows me to change tunes and save up to 3 different trims to change on the road. Surging is gone.

I tried a 14t sprocket up front first and surging was still there btw. And I am always in 195hi in Sport Mode (so I keep the normal dash display).

Don't ride it low RPM's is the solution.

I don't have a problem at all, stock or full termi.

maybe someone jacked up all your map settings. Try sport at factory defaults and I bet it doesn't surge if the throttle is held still.

3000 mine is smooth and clean at 45mph in second, even at 30mph in second.

If you get below 30 in second its your fault for not downshifting.

You can also ride in race with the same dash display that is in sport mode...

I also had the same surging problems, I changed the gearing and it helped but didn't disappear. But when I got the Rapid Bike....Wow! What a difference! The surging is gone now, I just got the Termis on my bike too and I love it!!
Cycle Pro is the place to go!
Like Juice said talk to Yaman and you'll think you'll be riding a new bike
Just my 2 cents

Hi,

I've just got the 1299s and have the same issue... it's horrendous compared to other bikes. Obviously 4-cylinders bikes like my old s1000rr are as smooth as silk; but even my friends Ducati multistrada doesn't have any surging issues.

Quotes i found from some older threads had people saying:
> Always bucking, trying to throw me off.
> Like taking a race horse from the stables to the post, it snorts, bucks and kicks every now and then

Through traffic at low speeds in first or 2nd gear; it's particularly noticeable in first gear below 50km/h (30mph); making it an unpleasant ride if i have a pillion; and means I normally have to coast with the clutch pulled in below 50km/h.

Could someone please explain what exactly is the rapid bike module and how does it fix the problem: will I need to take it to a tuner to install and remap? or is it a DIY install and nothing to tune?

thanks

There is a good thread on here, I think maybe in the technical section and Yaman explains what RB is and what it does. Do a search to find it. Perhaps some product research yourself on RB. Email Yaman and have a chat. I do not have one, I have used Tuneboy. Lots of guys on here swear by RB, I am sure it is a good product. To stop coasting with the clutch pulled in try changing the gearing. As has been said before remember this is a racebike you can ride on the street. It is really not designed for communter work in traffic. All the best in your quest to make your twin feel like an inline 4.

there's definitely a low fueling issue on the pani's. Someone told me they rode the new Multistrada and it didn't have any that bucking/surging at all.

I find it very heard to find a neurtral throttle when entering corners so like someone else said, I usually let the clutch slip to keep things smooth.
i'll definitely have to look into these RB/TB solutions.
But other good suggestion was turning down/off the EBC settings. That made a huge difference as well! I used to ride with it on 3, now I put it " - " off and the throttle response is definitely improved...and to be honest, I can't tell a difference in the actual braking from level 3

If you approaching a corner downshifting from a fast straight and run into a corner fast (on the track and have the engine braking set on level 3) You WILL notice a big difference. The bike practically free wheels when downshifting just before the corner. I don't like it. I use the engine braking somewhat anyway. I am coming off a 2011ZX10r track bike and still trying to reprogram my brain how to ride this monster twin.
Personally I like the engine braking turned off on the street (and on level 1 on the track.). Level 3 is just too loose for my riding style.
