Good evening all,

I have been trying to get some quick information regarding the base Sachs spring. I'm getting ready to dial-in the suspension and am missing one piece of information. I've searched and found nothing and the tech from the dealership is on vacation until mid-next week.

What is the uncompressed length (or height as some others have called it) Sachs stock spring?

Any information available would be appreciated as this weekend is slated to be beautiful here and now is a great time to dial it in.

Bump...

Anyone?

I called a different dealer's service department to get the information and they had a pretty odd answer. They stated that they have been told NOT to touch any suspension on these machines.

I find it difficult to believe that no one is getting their suspension tuned for their weight and riding style (Amongst other factors).

Any information that I can get would be quite helpful.

When I bought my Base I asked them to set the SAG for my weight and go from F to P. I did not double check the SAG but they told me they did it. I only rode it after they set it so I don't know if it made any difference. I've been reading that I'm too muscular for the stock Sachs spring at 235lbs anyway so I'm blaming my low side on that ;-)

I haven't asked the dealer if there is a new spring I can buy but I'm guessing the answer is no and I'll have to look aftermarket. And then there are the forks......

pm jarelj he did a lot of work setting up his base pani, and can probably tell you fork internals, he's owner/manager ducati omaha.

I've replaced mine with an Ohlins shock. I can measure the existing spring if you still need the length.

I measured the free length, but forgot and have lost the number - will post up when I pull it back off soon. Stock base spring is 490lbs/in, or about 85N/mm, measured on an Intercomp spring rater. Bit softer rate than the 90 the S comes with. Front springs are 10N/mm on both base and S.

I do still require the length!!

I would greatly appreciate the measurement so we can start playing with this unit. I realize that the Sachs is not an Ohlins in terms of quality and desirability, but I'm going to work with what I've got.

If only I could eliminate that pesky ex-wife budget I could increase my Panigale mod budget! :)

I got mine setup quite well by a suspension specialist last september:
Spring length is now 147 mm
Rebound 1 click out
compression 3 clicks out

Semi fast rider, close to 100 kg including all gear

I have a local former AMA racer that does suspension setups and he needed the information so that he can baseline it and then we will do fine tuning once it is set up.

Took a few goes to get the front end dialed up nicely, but he says we can do a little bit more and had me put zip ties at the bottom of my forks. I honestly have never had suspension done on any of my bikes through my 12 year riding "career"... Just having the front done made quite a difference in the feel of the bike.

I was ignorant to the benefits of tuning suspension and was always about motor tuning (which I've always done on the older bikes, these advanced electronics are also new to me). He told me that he would hate to see me lose this bike in a corner when I take it to the track. Made it very clear that this isn't my first gen ZX-10 where you just accept that it was trying to kill you given the chance. The Pani is apparently much more "forgiving" in his books.

Thanks so much for following up one this one!

I'm waiting to get the bike into the shop to finish our dial-in of the rear suspension. It's been rainy and terrible here so I've been a little bi*** and not ridden the bike around this past week.

NP, happy to share. Of note for anyone changing to Ohlins springs on the Sachs, you will have to grind/file the paint off the inside of the first coil on each end as it's a wee bit snug for the collars. Spring swap is a doddle otherwise, at both ends.

Can anyone give me advice on the proper way to support the rear of the bike when you remove the rear shock. Putting on the new TTX MK2. Thanks for the help.

I used a hydraulic elevator under exaust silencers (my have the orginal silencers and they are very strong). Between the elevator and the exaust I inserted 7 mm of rubber.
In alternative you can insert a bar (diameter 10 mm) into the drilled nuts between swingarm and engine. Then you can use this bar to support the motorbike. (you can see a pot in the post "How to: change F to P on rear shock w/ pics"

I just used jackstands under the footpeg mounts. Put the bike on the rear wheel stand, slide the stands into position under the peg mounts and then slowly lever the bike off the rear wheel stand, lowering it onto the jackstands. I also dropped a couple of tie-down straps from a ceiling beam to the subframe just as a backup in case anything slipped. Have left the bike like that for days at a time with no issues.

I'm think of installing a TTX Mk2 on my base

Interested to hear details on the changeover process and a how it has changed the handling.

Thanks for the information. Will get shock in a couple days and once installed I will report back.
