The new ohlins suspension is electronically adjusted on the 1199S and Tricolor edition using the ECU of the bike. Does anybody know if its possible to disconnect the suspension and replace it with aftermarket shocks and forks without a problem?

If it is an issue (I doubt it will be), your backup plan would just be to drop in an 1199 ECU if codes are thrown.

Curious, though--what's driving the need to replace the suspension? And why not just get a standard model?

Not sure if the DES can be disabled but there will be a way around it somehow.
Why do you want to change an S ?
Why not go for the stock ABS 1199 and then fit Ohlins TTX etc? the only other difference is the wheels and the LED lights.

There must be a way because the bike Ducati did WSS testing with didn't have the electric Ohlins stuff. Also the SBK race version has Ohlins FG9000 gas forks and a higher spec SBK shock. We will know more when they start WSS testing in late January.

I am willing to bet that disconnecting the suspension will throw major codes.

A jumper or two in the harness should be enough to trick the ECU into thinking something is still connected. Desmo Dave brings up a great point, though....if I was planning on replacing the suspension on the S, I'd just opt for the base model.

Isn't the electronic suspension on the S NIX30's and a TTX36? This is top notch stuff anyway - is it worth spending a lot upgrading it? A non electronic TTX would run to £1000/$1500.

The non-S has cheaper Showa components if i remember correctly.

I just asked this question because i was curious. I was going to buy an S but i opted out for the base which i will later mod for track riding. I was just wondering how much of a pain it would be to take that suspension out and replace it without any extra mods to the ECU.

I think for club racing the stock stuff on the S model should be pretty good. The 1199 will be racing World Super Stock in 2012 so we need to look at those rules to see what Ohlins will offer. This will also give us some insight to how the AMA bikes will look in 2013 because WSS rules and AMA Superbike rules are very similar. In WSS the shock can be changed but the forks must use the standard external tubes. I assume there will be some sort of cartridges for the forks, perhaps gas TTX25's. I also assume there will be a higher grade rear shock, maybe a TTX36LE MotoGP spec shock.
