This is for anyone who is thinking of buying a Panigale

Honestly, you have to be pretty insecure to care that much about comparisons to let them dissuade you from spending YOUR money on something that YOU want.

Even the last place bike in these comparos is still an amazing piece of tech that will be more than 99.9% of riders can handle. I've always said, go with whatever machine speaks to you and gives you the biggest grin.

I just laugh at those who need shootout comparisons to justify their machine. If they need a few journalists to help them sleep at night, I feel bad for them. The fact that their enjoyment cannot be realized without having the competiton involved is sad. I can only imagine what goes on in their minds when they roll into a lot full of bikes. Personally, I think all bikes are badass due to their very nature, but I don't think twice when I see a BMW, Aprilia, etc., because I don't need to tell myself that my bike is better simply because Joe Blow from some internet site said so.

The people who are genuinely content are those who know, without need for outsider acceptance, that they've picked the right bike for themselves. In that sense, they have the best bike possible. No matter what anyone else says or what new bike comes along, they win.

And, if you do need a bit of reassurance, just read the forums. There are countless Panigale owners who couldn't be happier. :)

Congrats on the purchase - it sounds like you made the best choice, regardless of HP, lap times, etc.

For the record, mine has had numerous issues, has tried to kill me, and burned a good chunk of my calf. I love it like no other bike I've owned. You can't explain that type of feeling in comparos.

Very well said. That is exactly the type of feeling everyone should get from their bike. I thought this would be a good place to get a thread like this started for those who are new to bikes or need to hear stuff like this. Again very well said.

I was ready to push the button on a 1098R when I read the pre-reviews of the Panigale - I fell in love immediately, put down my deposit in November 2011, took delivery May 2012. I have a BMW as well, they are great, well made bikes. Love German engineering. But in a million years would you refer to one as an "exotic". I would say the Ferrari is the Panigale of cars, rather than the other way around :)

This going to be partly my thoughts on the bike and partly advice.

First off, I am partly biased because I love this bike. The sum of the parts equals something that is so much greater than just the parts. Its hard to put words to. It may not be quite as fast as the S1000RR, or be as nimble, or be as comfortable. However, it has that "it" factor that will attract attention from miles around, something the BMW will never have. The color and the look of it is so much different than all the Japanese bikes running around, which the BMW looks and sounds like. You have to see it in person to appreciate. Pictures do not do this bike justice. The sound it makes is something like that of an angry demon bellowing from the depths of hell. Twisting the throttle wide open through the gears just makes it sound even angrier, as well as letting the whole city know your out on the bike.

If you ever get the opportunity to buy this bike, don't hesitate. If you have your heart set on it, then do what it takes to make it happen. You won't regret it. Don't settle for something else even if its another Ducati. Don't worry about what the magazine and website reviews say. I can promise you that if this is definitely the bike for you then no amount of discomfort will make you regret buying it. The seating position, the heat from the exhaust, and whatever else can be dealt with. After all this is a race bike. The ability of the human race to adapt is amazing.

X2 my friend :D

i love this thread anybody want to buy mine many extras 22k im dead serious too
I'm just curious, why did you purchase the 1199 in the first place?
I am assuming you must have taken it out for a ride and all before you purchased... What did you like about this bike, looks aside ? Are into material possessions that other's may lust ?? Are you the type of person who also would purchase helmets or gear worn with the same design graphics as your hero just because it is affiliated with them ( in your case MM I assume) ?

I personally could care less why he bought it, just why he feels the need to constantly berate it on a pro-Pannigale forum. And whether or not it sells, he will continue to post anti-Ducati, pro-BMW comments here, because he loves the banter this place gives him (these posts are a prime example of what he loves).

Thank you all for the feedback. I posted this because I started reading magazine and journalist reviews when I decided I wanted this bike. The jist of all the articles was just the facts. The info about the suspension or the motor or how it compared to other bikes. Almost like they tried to quantify everything. Nobody printed how the bike made them feel. It almost made me start looking to other bikes and other manufacturers. I then became a member of this forum and lurked for two years before I could buy one. I read as many of the threads as I could and discovered the undeniable passion this bike brings about in so many of the members here. I wanted to pass this on to others who are undecided.

STOP READING AMERICAN MAGAZINES!!!!1!!!!

Americans have piss poor taste in motorsport. .Period.

Bike had an excellent mutiday review on the Panigale S. What it was like. "Most memorable experience" (when ridden with a BMW and Zx10r) pretty much sums it up. The Brits still get it. They still can report on what it's like to experience something. The US mags are just interested in fake arse #'s. Bike and Fastbike sum up how I feel about motorcycles. Cycleworld and Sport Rider are bland by comparison, about as useless as those lame fks at Motortrend.

Keep in mind, the Pani smokes Japanese bikes, only the Aprilla and BMW keep up. When was the last time a Ducati superbike could keep up with a Suzuki or Kawasaki on a drag strip? Or on a race track. NEVER. The 916-999's didn't have the motor or chassis to keep up. Maybe in race form they did, but Ducati never was competitive in a stock shootout, until now. I guess Audi wouldn't stand for that anymore?

If you need to liven up a Pani or a Bmw, just get the wrenches out and fix it. The wang measuring, "my bike can beat up your bike" is chidish at best. Most of that banter is from riders even more newbish than me.

Thanks Buliwyf, that's why we the USA never get all the good cars the Europeans are offered, an old 1 here, M5 E34 no floating brake rotors because Americans can't take responsibility for correct maintenance. How long did it take if ever for the Porsche GT3 RS. Just like the lame (Tanner excluded) USA version of TopGear, why even bother. I read EU reviews at least theirs some chance of the truth & fairness.

The USA top gear needs Tanner, Tommy Kendel, and Paris Hilton as it's cast with a BBC camera crew. Then maybe it would be odd enough to compare to the BBC version.

We don't even want good cars anymore. Why do you think every new Mustang model was fugly. And then evolved to something good looking until the next new style comes out, and it's fugly again. Ford does that on purpose. The fugly sells, then when it slows down, they make the car better and better looking, until it's dated and a new model is needed.

I was helping out in a Merc garage. Owner of a a McLaren SLR was pissed and wanted to ask the tech (me) why he had to pay $550 for all the undertray bolts and hardware on a car only 1 year old. Those stupid bolts seize up completely in exactly 24 months then fail/snapp the 1st time the car bottoms on something, then you have to get the grinder out and make a mess of a darn good undertray. So they get changed every service. "But I shouldn't have to pay for that!" Pfff. Whatever. Does he want his exotic car serviced correctly or not. Was he really expecting a sub $1k service on such a machine? I doubt he's ever seen what a loose undertray does to a McLaren when it comes off at 150mph.

I spent half my working life working on Euro Exoctica & historic race cars, when it's joe blow who bought something nice for image looks whatever these are the cheap skates which are in the majority that penny pinch complain and make it so difficult, hence what we have, I have to say there are many great owners I have met and worked with over here but the bad group drowns those out by a long margin. Although we don't get many of the great Euro hot hatches etc over here I still prefer working with Americans than Brits as customers, in the UK your just a grease monkey that the owner doesn't want to speak or associate with, here in the USA those good customers love to speak & know who is working on there vehicle. Yes I love & hate the USA , trouble is there's no utopia
