HI guys,

For those of you that have swapped out your V4S wheels for Carbon fibre wheels. Would you consider the purchase worth it in terms of performance gains?

I was thinking of getting a set, and I was watching a YouTube thing with Gordon Murray, and he was talking about his new supercar. The interviewer asked why it didn't have carbon fibre wheels. His answer "the way carbon fibre fails, negates any advantage over forged aluminium".

Seemed pretty fair.

Stop spreading this bullshitt.why people who never one stuff thy talking ..... about stuff.
I’m not knocking them just gave my opinion. No need to get testy. Riding in nyc is like riding on the moon nothing lasts these streets

This is an endless discussion but you need to understand the material. Carbon will shatter, it is susceptible to heat damage, otherwise it can be far stronger, stiffer and lighter than any alloy. Also "carbon wheel" is the same as saying "mag wheel", meaningless until you know how is it made, to what spec and for what purpose.

Personally unless you are planning to smash potholes all day and regularly dump the bike from 12 oclock wheelies I wouldnt worry about strength. as for performance per the OP's question- everyone notices an improvement but as usual the value you put on that is entirely up to you.

U telling carbon wheel broke came apart because road conditions in NYC? That’s not wheel fault that’s u pall Cuomo

I'll be sure to shake my fist and curse their names as the exploding carbon wheel sends me to oblivion

I’d bet a huge sum of money that going from the stock v4s wheels to carbon fiber wheels would net the average track day rider zero performance gains. The S wheels are already light as it is. Total waste of money and aren’t race legal anyway.

I agree, the S wheels are pretty good. There is definitely an 80/20 rule for bike upgrades

If you are chasing a championship then I say go for carbon fiber wheels. But if youre going to buy carbon fiber wheels then you may as well buy the strongest ones on the market which are probably Thyssenkrupp carbon fiber wheels. They dont layer carbon fiber on carbon fiber. Thyssenkrupp uses braided carbon fiber and also fills their spokes with foam to strengthen their wheels. They are the lightest on the market and probably the strongest which is why they have so many road certifications. I sold 2 sets since becoming a dealer 2 weeks ago. These 2 sets should be sent out within 1 to 2 weeks. But in my opinion unless youre bike has pretty much been upgraded with performance parts and the wheels are the only thing left. You can spend that money on other performance parts and keep the S wheels. The money you would have spent on carbon wheels that can go towards other performance parts would be the way to go. At least thats how I look at it.

Thank you guys for your comments. The V4S is an awesome bike already. I just wanted to know if any one felt that carbon fibre wheels were worth it.
My bike is used mainly for street with a few track days thrown in for good measure. I think I'll look at other performance upgrades.

I'd get carbon wheels cause they look cool !!

If I cared about practicality I'd be riding a Yamaha.. If I cared about functionality i'd be riding a beamer M1000rr

I have carbon fiber wheels on my S63Amg and my V4R, and I’m in NY. I cracked 2 wheels on the Benz, but so far the Ducati wheels are good. And the southern State parkway worse than the Moon.

Ok what’s u point? Carbon wheels faulty or leadership in NYC should be put in wheelbarel and dump from top of Triboro bridge down?
