Hi All
I dont post much but been here for a little while. I have a 12 1199S and I am having throttle problems. I was wondering if anyone had similar problems and might know what’s going on. I have taken it back twice to the dealer and little help.
Sorry for the long story, but I want to be descriptive as possible.
When I purchased the bike, I was stationed in Albuquerque NM Elevation about 5400ASL. Bike ran smooth at all speeds, I could hold the grip at a certain position and the bike would run at the given speed smoothly even if my wrist moved slightly from hitting large bumps. In june 14’ I relocated back to my home in Honolulu HI - 0ASL.
Here is what I did before the shipment
The fuel was drained and the bike was shipped in a closed container. Straps were placed directly on the handle bars to keep it from moving (Shipper’s not so great ideas) It sat in storage for about 4 months.
When I finally received the bike, it had a little cosmetic damage here and there from the move, but I really noticed that the grips had permanent marks from the straps. I checked everything else filled her with premium and took it on a test ride. I immediately noticed that if I hold the throttle at a steady speed, the bike would lose power for a second and then recover itself in a jerking motion. The feeling is if I had EBC on 1 and gassed it and then reduced the throttle completely. It cuts power almost quite a bit.
This only happens at constant throttle or if I am engine braking. If I go 45 and take my hand off the throttle the engine will slow down at a constant rate but then suddenly choke up.
I thought it might have been due to old leftover fuel or dirty plugs/injectors so I put some sea foam in the tank on the next fill – no help
Took it to the dealer and they blamed it on the charcoal canister and blocked the line going to it.
The bike definitely starts better and doesn’t cut out as bad, but the problem is still there. Now It only seems to happen when I am hitting bumps and holding the throttle steady or engine braking. I thought it was me being sloppy on the throttle so I watched my hand movement as I went over bumps and any normal imperfections in the road. What I noticed is that even the slightest most minute movement of my wrist is enough to make it choke up and cut out a little.
Is there something wrong or am I being too picky? I never had to focus on holding the throttle so much before. I thought that it was the altitude difference, but im not so sure.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

My 2013 ex demo came with termi slip ons I did not experience yr problem good excuse to buy termi slip on? They sound awesome!
Good luck

Make sure that during transport the straps didn't break the throttle tube or the lugs inside. I would suggest having the dealer pull the throttle apart and check it for any broken hardware. Then once they finish have them do a Throttle Relearn.

I had a similar issue after switching from race to sport mode after riding from 0-2500m asl. The bike would stumble at wot (up hill). As I reached my destination the bike was nearly stalling. I switched back to race after i had lunch and on my way back down the mountain it seemed ok.
I thought maybe it was bad gas plus elevation gain, maybe the sport map was based on the last use? Anyway it hasn't happened for the last couple 100kms and the service tech didn't know. I'll see if it happens again next season I guess.
I just had the valve check done since the bike was apart for major warranty work(17000km). New plugs couple of closing rocker arm adjusters no other issues found.

He stated he didn't have the issue before the transport shipping. He also stated that they strapped the handle bars. I would still recommend the same as I did above before anything else.

THanks everyone. No fix yet, really haven't had the time. I've been dealing with it more than nagging about it as of late.

I have read on this forum before
that you do not strap the handlebar on the right
because of the electronic throttle
