I am converting my 1199 over to a track bike. As part of the process, I am going to replace the OEM fairing stay and rear sub-frame with light-weight and reparable aluminum aftermarket parts.

I was thinking of the Motoholders products; however, my local vendor (who can get both) suggested the Tightails products, noting that they were cheaper and very high quality. He uses their gear on his track bike.

See: Ducati

Anyway, I thought I'd pass on the link to anyone who is interested.
If you have experience with the specific products for the 1199, I'd value some additional user experience in terms of fit, ability to repair, etc. Otherwise, I'll probably provide a review in a later post when I begin the build process.

Cheers.

I have Motoholders and they are much cheaper than Pierobon. I have seen tighttails used by a couple of builders but cant say much about the quality. I have an MWR aluminum fairing stay with big air intakes for sale in the classifieds. Make me an offer.

Pulled the trigger on the Italian-made sub-frame and fairing stay today. :)
6082 Aluminum with heavy duty TIG welds for an extra strong/lightweight (2.9 lbs) sub-frame.
I ordered the sub-frame in black powder coat. Should be here after Christmas.
I'll start a "poor man's" build thread (compared to some of you guys) in January when I get some more of the stuff for the track conversion.

Motoholders did not have a spot to secure the bbs. I had to zip tie it which sort of sucked.
The tighttails fits the bbs like oem, the section that the rear chamber mounts on is also nicer. I never weighted them because the motoholders subframe got destroyed in a crash.
I choose tighttails as the better of the two.

I can give input Pierobon vs Motoholder...

I originally purchased a Motoholder because it was the most cost effective. When I received it and tried to fit it, I hated it. Nothing lined up. I had to modify the gas tank bracket and even then it was a poor fit. It has no mounting points for the front of the exhaust cover which was not disclosed to me with a direct question when I ordered. Any attempt to get help from the manufacturer was met with very little help.

I then ordered the Pierobon. Got it and within half an hour it was on the bike. All mounting points as well as BBS plate were included. I would say it is a 10 out of 10 as far as build quality. Couldn't be happier.

The down side for Pierobon is that the exclusive dealer in the states is Boulder Motorsports and they are aware of this fact. So it is way overpriced... I think it's double the price of the Motoholder.

Did you bolt this on to an 1199 or an 899?
I have heard via this forum that the Motoholder unit requires some "additional effort" to fit the 899.

1199

This is only my experience. They are hand made... There is a chance you will get one that fits out of the box. I didn't. Main thing for me was the lack of mounting points for the front of the heat shield. Seems like a giant oversight.

Interesting. Yaman at Cycle Pro/Rapidbike had no issues mounting my motoholders subframe.

You're riding an 1199; my understanding is that on the 1199, the sub-frame usually bolts right on, lining up perfectly.
But, as noted above, I suppose being hand-made that there is some natural variation. I had not heard of the issue of no place to mount the black box or the heat shield. I suppose it is a quick fix with some zip-ties.

I am the guy who had issues with the 899.

Certainly needs some new bolts, but once that is done it fits great. My thread has the dimensions if you need it.

The tightails is way better than the motoholders. Just my opinion based on experience with both.

How much and where to buy?

I sourced them from here: Power Sports Stuff
Not listed on their website; you'll have to email or call.

I paid a little over $600 for both; however, that included shipping and powder coating of the sub-frame. (Andre, the retailer, had the sub-frame powder-coated for me once it arrived from Italy.)
