TIRES for street and track use

Well, I had my first agricultural experience yesterday at the track. It was cold as heck and the track surface was not there. Ambient temperature was around 50 degrees and I could feel the bike spinning on throttle. I had it in Race mode the same as I did at VIR last month when I did two days back to back. At VIR the ambient temp was 90 degrees and my factory Supercorsa SC3's were clawing like a tiger and I dragged knee through every corner. Yesterday was another story. I never had confidence on the Pirelli TD tires but I was also going about 60-70% of pace as it was just too cold.

During the third session I turned in to turn 1 and the front wheel tucked and slid underneath me at maybe 50mph. This was on the third session of the day and I had been using Capit tire warmers because of the cool conditions. I went down on lap 5 and apparently I was the fifth biker of the day to go down in the same spot! The corner worker said the Porsche Club was on track the day prior and had laid down some oil but to their eyes it appeared clean...

A lot of lessons learned here. Don't partake in October track events on the east coast. Skip the morning and early afternoon sessions if ambient temps haven't come up yet. You can't do squat about an oil slick, even a cautious slower pace is not enough.

I don't want to blame the tire but I certainly can't say I have confidence in them like I did the SC3's. Perhaps it was the 55 height vs 60? My tire pressure was 32psi front and 28psi rear.

Sorry to hear that man, hope you are ok

I suppose it was mostly to track conditions, weather, maybe oil, and difference from track to track, grip wise I mean

Hope you get your bike up and running in no time
