It has been 12 months since the last discussion so I am looking for the current and up to date thoughts on the matter.

Just dropped of my beautiful 2013 Base with 9,000km and picked up a 2014 S. I am wondering if the little winglets that come with the rest of the stuff that stays in the bubble wrap should be fitted or not fitted.

I kinda think it makes the nose a bit cooler.

Personal choice.

I think they are weird.

My take is that while the aerodynamics are better, the Italian designers couldn't quite bring themselves to allow the more bloated look.

Middle ground was clip on winglets, safely in the box of accessories

Obviously BMW would never have such issues..... they would happily graft a cows arse onto the bike, in the name of improved performance

I have run the Aero Kit on my "R" since day one. I think the looks are improved and it is how it should be. The "SL" has them molded into the Carbon nose.

Good enough for Troy Bayliss, good enough for me!

If you didn't know, the alleged story is that during the 1199 development, test rider Troy Bayliss was looking for more aero stability when track testing, and Ducati Corsa engineers came up with the add-on pieces.

For me, a large part of the 1199's appeal comes from its design intentions as a racing/track weapon, so I want to have all the parts that the Corsa team intended, which is not necessarily what the styling gurus wanted. Doesn't make a damn bit of difference on the street, and probably not on a track without a long straight and speeds above 150 mph, but I know it's there. Plus, I'm a big guy so widening the front end slightly makes it look a bit less like a Circus Bear riding a tricycle ;)

One very important point: it is said by others on here that if you snap on these pieces without a Paint Protection Film (PPF) over the nose where they contact the nose piece, they will leave marks on the paint if you decide to remove them. I have an application of XPEL PPF over the front so even though I don't have any intention of removing them it's nice to know I could without any damage.

I think to winglet! They made my R look 10x cooler and more aggressive . The narrow nose without it was cool for a while too but I think the look amazing. I wish the SL had options like the rest instead of it being molded. The fact that it's an add on piece makes it look better in my opinion

I can just imagine them putting down their pizza, chopping the corners of the box it came in, then telling Troy to go test the prototype, while muttering how the poor fella has lost his flexibility :p:p:p:p

Love the looks, Ducati didn't make them just for fun. Glad most are not using them will make the few that do stand out @ DUC meets

I do not like the look, I really like the slim front, so... No :D
Also that the painting is not smooth on the side because of the addon, no...

I tried them and didn't like them do to my fit on the bike. With them on they seemed to flow more wind on my shoulders. Tried both was for about 100 miles and now go wingless.

It's not available for the Base model at all.

I think from memory, some people reported on this forum their very early Base model had the canards included with their kit by mistake.

Without winglets v with winglets.

It does fill out the nose.

I can tell Troy Bayliss that I followed his lead if I see him at Phillip Island this weekend

They were already installed on my Tricolore, I think it made the front look like a platypus. Removed them carefully and only had light rub marks in a few isolated spots.. that hand polish quickly removed. With them off, I get a lot more airflow over my hands, which in Florida's heat is a welcome addition.
