With the costs of these things, does anyone use any type of track day insurance and can you recommend any companies or ones to avoid?

Only ever heard of track day insurance for high end exotic cars that are several hundred thousand dollars (Haggarty). Never for bikes.

I’m no subject matter expert but I know it’s available in Europe and in select markets here in the states. I traded pm’s with a guy in the Sportbike Track Time group on FB who’s a broker and offers coverage in his home market (Minnesota iirc), but not here in Texas.

AAA insurance covers or covered untimed (non-race) track days. Not sure if they still do. I'm sure some insurance companies offer this type of coverage as well.

I hear stories of this, but I’ve never been able to confirm it. I think it’s possible that some reps are selling insurance by promising the moon but obviously whatever the rep says is trumped by the written insurance policy.

Typically as long as you are not racing in a sanctioned racing event or practicing for a racing event and you have full coverage it should be covered.
I was able to file a claim a few years ago while doing a track day.

USAA is the best .... there is for all you military guys. Covers everything except, as was mentioned, timed events. I balled up a Monster in the weeds. I got a hug and a check for replacement cost. That was amazing. Cost is going to be associated with your profile. Age, location etc.

I can't find it in Italy. It seems it was common just a year or two ago. When I call around now, I can't find even full-coverage, (called "casco") for street either.
Such a different world here.
There is however "rain insurance" for the track. €80. if it rains on track days, you get all other investments back.

Have you tried the place that sponsors 44Teeth - BE Moto iirc?

I’m a USAA member - I’ll call today and see what they say. Geico won’t even cover my track bikes for replacement if stolen, let alone for track day events.

I have trackday insurance, we have a local insurer who specialises in high value bikes. The only caveat is that the track has to be on their approved list and you have to inform them prior to going.

I need to call State Farm and verify. All I'm looking for is track day stuff. No racing etc.

Interesting how it varies state to state. I wonder what Mass is doing that no one wants to cover motorcycles there.

I actually have USAA. I’ll scrutinize my policy today and respond back with what I find. I’d love to have this issue resolved in my mind once and for all.

I’ll can Hagerty tomorrow and see, been using them for years for track days with the Porsche…they do insure boats so they might do motorcycles

Asking is free so I’ll find out.

If I can get them to cover it for stated value like with the cars it would be great, and make me feel a whole lot better about going full send on a $120k bike as a relative novice hahaha

Thanks! I’ll submit a request.

I called USAA today and was informed (misinformed?) that they’re currently contracting Texas customers with Progressive for motorcycle coverage. They redirected me to Progressive who informed me they will not cover bikes used for track days.

It's been two years, but I do seem to recall doing the online quote, then calling them with the quote reference number...

I just checked my email while thinking of it. I did do an online quote, then used the reference number when I called in.

The whole calling a trackday a "non timed event" and "rider education" loophole ended years ago. Car guys made sure of that. You won't get straight answers and you can always take your chances and submit a claim and see if your local agent/adjustor will cover, but trackdays are not covered by a street motorcycle insurance policy. Personally, I think its borderline insurance fraud and raises the rates for harley and goldwing and other hobby riders in your area if you bin your expensive Ducati at Turn 1 and make a $30k claim. We also know what follows - you buy the bike back from insurance and make it a trackday special.

P.S: I would recommend any of you doing this to delete your posts in this thread.
