Hi guys, just thought I'd start a thread and share 2 short videos from Eastern Creek in Sydney. I'm running 1.44s so not that quick yet, but it sure is fun!!!

Suggestions welcome on lines / braking technique / testicular fortitude etc welcome. Camera mounting ideas also well received :)

look on youtube at the channel "life at lean"
great for starting at the track
first tip: don't try to go hard, go smooth

In my experience successful track riding is far more technical than many people admit or understand. I've yet to encounter the situation where "more balls" was the solution. More often than not issues can be traced back to underdeveloped technical skills; vision being the number one culprit for me.

If I could go back in time and help myself get just one skill right it'd be vision because once your eyes are starting to do the right things everything slows down dramatically and it's a lot easier to start working on everything else.

Ok, you asked for advice

So here it goes

Give 3 full turns of preload on the back (that is 3 turns compressing the spring)

Then go ride

Now that your front tire is not in the air for half a straight, you can go a bit faster

You can thank me later

Hey Rodolfo,

Thanks, to clarify, do you mean 3 additional turns, including the original 6 that came as set from the factory, to a total of 9 ?

Or 3 total from zero, as the bike is set to now, for street riding, per Dave Moss ?

Cheers guys

Yes, 2 or 3 additional from the stock setting

Total of 8 or 9

Give it a try, if you don’t like it, you can go back to your setting

I had the same problem, couldn’t give gas, without getting headshake, or wheelie all the time. This fixed this problem for me

Yes, the ride is a little firm for the street, but at least try 2 additional turns

Righto mate I'll give it a shot, thanks for that.

Q - how heavy are you ? I'm about 180lbs with gear

I actually think you are moving pretty good. I don’t really see a big problem with the wheelies. It is not like you are at 12 o’clock, some power wheelie is going to happen with the power of its bike and low wheelie control.

I also run less preload on the rear as per Dave Moss, but it works for me fine a bit softer on the rear. Maybe some day I’ll go back to stock preload on the rear or try more preload, but I honestly don’t think suspension adjustments really make as much of a difference on these bikes. Unless you are totally non-standard weight. I think most important in terms of suspension is to make sure your front is adequate on braking and everything else is subjective to a large degree. Your front seems to be fine under braking.

I largely tried the same camera angles as you. Except my front camera is mounted in front of ignition using those two bolts and I think it is better there.

170 lb , no gear

I am 170lbs, without gear

Try the setup, It will change your bike completely

Have you seen WSBK, do you see them wheelieing all the time, like your video

No they don't

I had your same problem, fixed it this way

Try it and post back with your comments

Looks like you could move your upper body more when you are in the turns. From what it looks like on video you seem to be moving your lower body over more than your upper body. Another thing I saw was that your foot was not on the ball all the time. It was on the arch but then moved to the ball.

Its hard to tell completely though since I don't know where on the track you were and under what other conditions. Maybe another bike in your way or moving into your line?

I second the suggestion to use lifeatlean to get hints and techniques.

I read an article on riding a bike with reverse engine crank a while back. I had an MV Agusta F3 800 and the reverse engine crank does change how you should enter and exit turns. Take that into consideration as well when taking advise about suspension and lines.

If you haven't watched all Simon Crafar (MotoGP grid commentator) and former pro racer and rider coach (Motovudu) on Youtube, you are missing out on some really solid advice.

Thanks guys for the comments. I'll check out lifeatlean and motovudu on youtube as you suggest.

I'll probably also have a play with the suspension, especially with the thicker fork oil in the front.

Feel free to share your own trackday videos in this thread too ?

Cheers
