Let me introduce myself and the project I am working on. I own several Ducatis but am new to the 'Panigale world'. I am a new owner of a brand-new white 1199s - brand-new. The former owner received it as a brand-new replacement under warranty from Ducati, and decided to sell it off directly. This was a great opportunity for me to own a new Panigale at a much lower price point as a new one.

One problem, I like RED Ducati's and really prefer a red Panigale over a white one  Also, in case I convert to red - I can 'store' the original white panels and tank in bubble wrap...in case I want to sell or trade the bike later in its life, it will still look as a brandnew rare white Pani.

Shortly after I bought the Panigale, I had found and the option to purchase:
1. Complete original fairing/panels of a 1199s in red...so would be an easy project and exchange...EXCEPT I was missing a red tank...
2. a red 2015 1199R tank and also a complete 2015 1199R fairing including all the plastic pieces inside de nosecone and the R headlight (no led) and support.

The 2015R tank is a piece of art - it is stunning and really looks beautiful! I also really like the 1299 rear...and prefer it overthe 1199 styling. My first idea is to go with complete 1299 (and '15 1199R styling). I am not interested and don't want to present an S like it would be an R...just like red over white and 1299 and especially R styling over 1199. As I found all the parts...why not do it?

I tried searching the web but can't seem to find other projects where someone has converted the 1199 into a 1299....am I the only one trying?

It looks like the 1299/1199R side panels and bottom panels are identical to the 1199. The 1299 has a wider front light, and different support and plastic parts. I would lose the 1199 Led front light...

Has anyone gone down this route before, would love to hear some further tips and insights?

It should be pretty straightforward to swap everything over. I use 1199 track bodywork on my 2016 Panigale R which is basically the same as the 1299S. I think the only reason more people don't do it is the cost. The 1299 rear end is much nicer and worth the money to upgrade IMO. The front end is nicer but not that different to the 1199 with the nose extensions so a lot of trouble and money for not much change and a bunch more plastics to fight with and mirrors that don't fold away. Apart from all the plastics I think the only real difference is the headstock frame thats different.

just ride it i don't see much upside in storing your panels the dealer or anyone else is not going to offer you much if anymore because you have white fairings. Just wipe then down after a ride and they will look fresh.

I will post updates on the progress. So far I believe I can get away with the 1199 subframe as on the OEM parts catalogue although they have different numbers, I couldn't spot a single difference between 1199 and 1299 subframe.

Yes correct you need all the plastic parts on the rear...as the rear side panels have different mounting points...with 1199 having the bolts vertical and the 1299 horizontal. I have all of these parts fortunately.

If the tail works out, I can still opt to change front to 1299 or keep as 1199, but then in red. But would prefer to go all the way, instead of half.

Pump and filler cap have been removed from the white tank and provide a straight fit on on the 1199R >2015 tank. So a good start!

It's your bike so mod it as you please. As Royal said the only thing you should need for the conversion should be the front gauge/fairing stay for the wider 1299 nose. I believe the rear subframe will work.

never a fan of making any type of vehicle something it's not, it's like putting a M3 badge on a 318.

But it's your bike just ride it.

That's about the worst comparison ever. I highly doubt his intentions are to badge it as an R as well. Modding a bike for many is far more fun than riding it n pushing it to its limits. Now if he badged it as an R as well like some do with their fake M's and AMG's, then sure, give him all the ..... Making it look like something simply because you like the visual appeal of said vehicle is perfectly fine as long as it's not badged as such. Badging a vehicle is what makes it stupid. Same as how some paint their bikes in the SL colors but no one is badging it as such. They simply like the look of it, nothing more.

Option 2 is to buy a complete 2015 R fairing Kit complete with tank if that's not tarting it up to be something it's not then I don't know what is.

And to my point on the M3 while you may not put the badge on a full body kit is just as lame. It's funny the only people who take offense with this are usually those that do it.

Maybe it helps the opinion to explain a bit more about the intentions. The Ducati's I own are either original (851s3, 749s), very rare (Troll) or (will be) bolted together from parts to make it something it not really is (888Corse - 998RS - 999RS Replicas). I hunt for rare parts from all over Europe..and very much like the hunt and especially meeting great like-minded people. In general I enjoy building bikes with great esthetics and show race provenance and care less about originality.

My interest to buy a Panigale started when I crossed the street in Soho NYC this summer...and passed a beautiful red Panigale....and for the first time I actually looked at a Panigale with an intend to own one as well, with similar looks...

The Panigale I spotted in NYC:

No offense taken at all. I've got more into my 1199 base than an R model would have cost me at the time. My thing is, I'm not really a fan of red bikes in general, although I do own a dragster rc. I like to mod. Simple as that. I'd never badge my cars or bikes as a model that it isn't. I was simply making the point that to compare the man's intentions similar to what others do with badging cars/bikes is a bit extreme or just the wrong analogy. Just my opinion of course. We'll just agree to disagree.

I only want to change my 1199R front look to 1299
Is the LED lamp is different than the 1199R LED?

Do I need a new set of 1299 LED headlamp?

I'm guessing you have the 13-14R? I think it's different. The headlight blanking kits are different for both.

Hi Twistedracer, Thanks mine was 2013 1199R,
I got the Front Fairing Stay Bracket for OEM part

but I think the headlight shape is different than 13R, how about the harness?

Still need a 1299 headlight and front fairing, not sure about the wire harness set.

Yup the shape is different so you'll need the 1299 fairing bracket, Fairing, and headlight. Not sure on the harness. Seeing as it's LED to LED I'd hope they're the same.

1199 and 1299 headlamps have different shapes...I already checked. 1299 headlamp is wider and doesn't fit 1199 fairing.

Also all the plastic parts are different.

I now have the 1299 front stay, all plastics around it, mirrors...and 1199R 2015 headlamp, with has NO LED. I want to swap the current 1199s LED for the 1199r/1299 No LED version, but have not figured out yet if wiring loom is the same and if all electronics allow for this swap...does anyone know?

Update...change of plans.

Found a brandnew 1299 base for great price. Saves a lot of time, and much better package to start with. So build will continue using a 1299 base as a start and not the 1199s.

In the mean time I found as new Ohlins FGRT214...originally for 899/959, but like the black over gold!

39471703274_78c868ae80_c.jpg

As I drop the Marzocchi's, who have a 57mm top yoke, I found an original 'ohlins spec' 1199s triple, which is needed for the Ohlins forks.

Forks came with as new Ohlins TTX GP shock. So package will now be: FGRT214, Ohlins TTX GP, OZ magnesium Cattiva wheels, Akrapovics full titanium, all R bodywork and tank, DP seat, black GBRacing cover, DP carbon front fender and some other nice bolt on goodies...

I like the stock matt black plastic parts on the bike as they will match with the matt black look of the magnesium wheels...so will pass on the option to 'carbonize' the bike. The front fender will be the only carbon part on the bike.

Next dot...the white 1199s being brandnew and the 'last produced twin' from Ducati resulted in the fact that I got a great price from a local dealer when ordering a V4...so it went and a V4 is on the way, to be delivered end of May...life is about connecting the dots!

Very sad to see it go though...the pearl white has really grown on me and it was just a very beautiful silhouette and bike to stare at...maybe one day I will regret that I 'once owned one of the last brandnew 1199's in the world'. Time will tell.
