Hello all. I’m trying to flash the TuneBoy tune and cruise onto my 1299 but it never gets to 100%. It stops anywhere between 2% and 70%. I have the battery on a tender and it’s got a good voltage.

I heard that this has been a common issue lately and that Wayne has been giving some “software update” that fixes it, but I don’t see it on the website.

can anyone share that update?

Alright, so I got it to work. I'm going to provide some instructions since this seems to be an issue for many.

--- Try these steps first ---
1) Make sure the tuneboy cable is connected and recognized by your PC. I also had the ignition turned on, not sure if this is necessary.
2) Run the TuneBoyUpdater.exe program.
3) In the dropdown, you should see something there. Select it. I don't recall what it's called but there should only be one.
4) Click the Upload button, then select the .hex key that is included in the zip. (As of this writing, it is called "TuneBoy_Microcode_6_12_18.hex")
5) Follow any prompts. This is very fast and takes less than 5 seconds.
6) Try flashing the bike as per the instruction manual. (this fixed it for me)

--- If those steps don't work ---
1) Go grab the files I've dropped here on my google drive. (This will remain for as long as I remember)
2) Follow steps 2-4 from above, but instead of the original hex file, use the following files:
a) start with "TuneBoy_CAN-M4D_Fix.hex" file, then try steps 5-6 from above
b) if that still doesn't work, use "TuneBoy_CAN_M4D_Fix1.hex", then try steps 5-6 from above.

If you're still having issues, email Wayne for assistance, then feel free to PM me or reply here. I can help however I can until Wayne gets back to you.

Please reply if any of this worked and helped you, and which file ended up doing the trick. Big thanks to CristianRus for providing me the files, and DerekJ (from a FB ducati page) for all of the help!

Hi,

thanks for the update.. it's helped me
I have 1299s too, can we use the full Akra tune file? (it has a 000802 name, not 000803 like our ecu) Is it mather?
Do you or somebody have Termi full exhaust map?

Glad it helped.

I used the full akra tune file for mine. As for the number, I’m not sure, but I would think it should work just fine.

for the full termi, your best bet is to just use the full akra tune. It’s likely extremely close and much better than running the stock tune.

thanks again

What with the trim files?
Do you know what's the different between the tune and the trim?

The trim files are optional if you want to be able to try different trims without reflashing. I’ve experimented with them and haven’t found much difference. Just the full akra map works great on its own and that’s what I’m currently using

Thanks!!!
Now I am understanding

Thanks!!

Trim files are a "fine tune" over the full akra map. I have 3 trim files loaded together with the full akra map. Still in the process of determining which one is the best.

Do you have noticed a "delay" in the throttle in the second and third throttle power mode?
I ride my bike last weak and have noticed that while I'm opening the throttle in 1%-3% there is a delay and then it kicks you out.

It is only in the 2 and 3 power modes. regular throttle mode is fine so I know it isn't a tuned issue or a mechanical problem like a throttle body correlation..
(by the way, I have CNC throttle tube so I have no gap or free movement)

?

Thanks for the tip with the updater.
Helped me a lot. Unfortunately I could not open the hex file. Can someone tell me what instructions were in this hex file. After uploading I continued without this hex file. Now I'm not sure if there was an important note in this file.

I haven't noticed any delay whatsoever. I primarily use the linear power curve (#2) but have played around with the quick turn (#3). Can't say I noticed a delay. Maybe try reflashing?

I know we spoke over PM, but i want to make this information public. This isn't designed as a guide to flash tuneboy, but more as a guide to those who have tried flashing but are having the flash process stop at X percentage complete (I've had it fail at 1% all the way up to 99% without completing).

It seems to be a delay like when you open the throttle on 1% or 2% it do nothing at all and then the bike give you a bite!

I don't know..

Maybe I'm not the only one..

@Matanel you may need to re calibrate your APS or TPS sensors. APS is at the grip, TPS is at the throttle body

Here is a screenshot from page 44 of the TuneBoy manual:
