BrenTuning Flash Development (Tech Talk)

BSB makes em run MoTec

Per rules no tc or wc

I thought it was cuz it didn’t have those features

Imagine riding one of those things 25 more hp than we got and not being allowed tc or wc : )

BSB gets around the lack of TC and WC by limiting throttle position based on lean angle. The same way the 2020+ Pani V4 does it.

I got the base brentuning map on the streetfighter, besides the cel blaring because the bbs was out and i needed to clear the codes. For the 5 mins i ran the bike it was considerably smoother and idled better than my upmap for it. The only issue right now is the stupid generic error light. He wants me to reflash the stock tune real quick and report back.
I’ll update this as we go along

What’s the take home message - avoid Bren Tuning?

He might be a talented tuner. I have never purchased his product so I'm not going to judge it.

What I will judge is that one of his employees regularly goes to motorcycle communities posing as a "unbiased member" to push BrenTuning's product and defend any criticism of it, and once called out for being Troy Gleason denies it and says it's mere coincidence that his username matches that of a YouTube or DeviantArt account owned by Troy Gleason. Old stretched BMWs making "217whp" and other nonsense I've read here and elsewhere... All of that is enough for me to spend my money on someone else's product.

Also he flips the f@$k out if anybody questions the outlandish claims or even asks to see a map.

I may have purchased a handheld unit and tune from them, but Troy’s responses to people on this forum and on Facebook sent me running.

I would consider them if I was nearby their shop and they actually had my bike on their dyno

I appreciate this insight.

I saw that dimsport and slr tuning were mentioned. Are they affiliated with Bren tune?

Definitely entertaining. I do agree a lot of tuning has become about marketing and hype, rather than the science. It wrecks some of the credibility. It completely turned me off of using some of these tuners, because so many flash users don't do before and after dynos that show independent definite positive results.

Funny that I don't see it as much in automotive tuning. Probably because of programs like HPtuners where most of the time the end users can see what was actually changed in the tune. No smoke and mirrors.

My cousin used the Brentune handheld on his 2020 S1K, and eventually took it in to a dyno shop for a proper flash/tune. They ran it and took a look at the Brentune before doing anything and found it was messing with ignition timing to incredibly dangerous levels. They said the bike was one bad tank of gas away from grenading itself. Turned me off from the product completely.

Yes. In these bikes that are already at a HP that most riders can't fully utilize and are incredibly high compression, I would rather take an exhaust system, tune for safe AFR and rideability and leave the ignition timing alone, instead of trying to seek every last HP.

95% of street riders should do just that, but they don’t.

I sure do hope the team at Duc is working on an active exhaust system like a Ferrari where it roars upon start up but quickly mellows down to “oem quiet”

My neighbors hate my bikes

I wear earplugs

Back in the day I raced various supercharged mustangs , we always posted up Dyno results before and After which would instantly call out tuners .... all Over the country , no body does this with bike flashes .
Post up a Dyno sheet with a video.

With my 20K mustang motor I would never dare order a internet tune and load in my CPU and drive it like a bandit down the quarter mile. Kaboom before I'd hit 60 foot.

If you go into woolich Map share site you will find a Bren tune extracted from a 1299 and you will clearly see no ignition timing. Dangerous , they sell this for $775 on their site ? Come on man.

Every motor has a slight tuning variance, factors like , elevation atmosphere temperatures, octanes. all play factors with tuning.

You want the best for your bike , put it on a Dyno with a good tuner and customize tune specifically for your application, no cookie cutter Internet tune can beat that.

offering my opinion just like everyone else at the end of the day it's your bike your money your choice.

Peace!

I’m in a car community as well (Toyota Supra), and as you said - dyno tunes are common place. In the bike community, I don’t see many dyno/tune videos/results for Ducati, but I do commonly see dyno flash tune videos for the Japanese bikes.

I currently have OFT & SLR for my aprilia . Bren tune for my Ducati . I like the SLR if you ask Franklin questions he will make time to answer them . He easy to work with I see better results on my aprilia compare to the OFT tablet. Bren tune on my V4S is ok I’m running into hiccups so I’m going to go with SLR is my next step for a tune. Also I bought the bike with a Bren tune since I’m not the original purchaser for the tablet Brentune isn’t willing to help endless I purchase a new device with a tune. I’ll be happy to pay for a tune just don’t see the logic to buy a device when I have one for the bike from Brentune .So I’m going with SLR for that reason and also results and the good customer service. Also Franklin doesn’t get upset when you ask questions.

I don't do much with cars anymore and a lot has changed since I did. I could remove the rom chip from the factory ECU, install a zif socket, buy some eeproms, and flash a bin with a willem chip burner. We called canned tunes "base maps" and they were only intended to safely get you and your vehicle to a dyno for a tune, or to give yourself a starting point if you were street tuning. From what I understand (and I could be wrong), BrenTuning products are essentially "base maps" that are encrypted and unable to be edited? It amazes me how many people were willing to shell out so much for it.

MCU Innovations aka PuffTheMagic on the CBR forums was reverse engineering the SC82/CBR1000RR-R ECU and developing the software to flash/tune it. He sold a very limited number of licenses to his "master tool" to tuning shops to assist with development. They got the ability to tune unlimited amount of bikes, and he got a ton of feedback to assist with development. BrenTuning got one of the licenses from a tuner in Europe that was willing to give up one of their three. Of course, this wasn't how the licenses were intended to be used, but MCU didn't make a big deal out of it. BrenTuning wanted additional licenses to allow them to send a laptop around via postal system so people could flash their bikes, but MCU only sold them for a limited time for development purposes and did not want to provide more so he had a chance to recoup something for his time/effort.

The infamous Troy Gleason shows up to the community posing as an unbiased 3rd party that happened upon some Youtube videos showing BrenTuning developed the "first" 200whp SC82 with their tune. It was far from the "first." As seen on other communities, he was quickly identified as Troy Gleason. Suspicious he was shilling, I Googled his username and one of the first results is a Youtube channel for none other than Troy Gleason. As seen on other communities, he denied it and accused me of being someone I'm not. He left after I looked through his short post history and noticed a month before the video was posted he claimed to own SC82 vin #170 -- which happened to be the same one in the BrenTuning video that appears to be owned by 650ib.

I don't know the owner of BrenTuning and have never purchased any of their products. For all I know, he's a competent tuner. Based on the threads here and in other communities, I would never trust his products without some strong evidence from others (aka not Troy). Even then, the tactics used by his lackey to "market" the product to communities by attempting to mask affiliation would prevent me from ever contributing to the company -- even if it was the only option.

Anyway, just thought you all might find humor in seeing Troy is still up to the same. I'm really digging the Streetfighter, so might see you all again in the future.
