BrenTuning Flash Development (Tech Talk)

Its a black rectangle-ish shape. I think he meant a literal black box as in shape, not as in flight recorder.

SLR Tuning and Brentune both use devices made by an Italian company, DimSport.

Essentially, it's a handheld device which can read and flash the V4 ECU. But you need the software to program the device, which is where SLR and Brent Brentune come in.

They send you a handheld device, it reads your ecu. You send this file to SLR or Bren, they rewrite it (flash file), send it back to you, and you load it onto the handheld device, and then onto your ecu.

I think Rexxer also offer a similar device.
Damn my mind is made up. Never want to own anything newer than what I have now. Thx.

MoTec is expensive. I know it works great for fuel and ignition. Does it have traction and wheelie control tho? @Mick1976

Per the SBU build, it does (many other configurable I/O’s for those inclined to collect data - suspension travel, tire temp and pressures, etc...). Pretty sure Maxxecu and Racetech do as well (both popular in the drag community).

Interesting that you don’t see standalone engine management as often in the bike community as in the auto community (where it’s common place).

BSB makes em run MoTec

Per rules no tc or wc

I thought it was cuz it didn’t have those features

Imagine riding one of those things 25 more hp than we got and not being allowed tc or wc : )

Longer swingarm and more anti-squat maybe.

MoTec is popular in the Supra and turbo Viper communities too. It’ll control basically anything you want it too - TC, LC, bump box, wheelie control (for cars, lol), etc...

For drag cars I think it was the first company to get crazy with it. ProStreet class all had MoTec 20 years ago. Bikes shortly thereafter. Now like you said racetec on everything

Definitely longer arm. Would be a blast to race. Til that first fast high side : )

BSB gets around the lack of TC and WC by limiting throttle position based on lean angle. The same way the 2020+ Pani V4 does it.

I got the base brentuning map on the streetfighter, besides the cel blaring because the bbs was out and i needed to clear the codes. For the 5 mins i ran the bike it was considerably smoother and idled better than my upmap for it. The only issue right now is the stupid generic error light. He wants me to reflash the stock tune real quick and report back.
I’ll update this as we go along

What’s the take home message - avoid Bren Tuning?

He might be a talented tuner. I have never purchased his product so I'm not going to judge it.

What I will judge is that one of his employees regularly goes to motorcycle communities posing as a "unbiased member" to push BrenTuning's product and defend any criticism of it, and once called out for being Troy Gleason denies it and says it's mere coincidence that his username matches that of a YouTube or DeviantArt account owned by Troy Gleason. Old stretched BMWs making "217whp" and other nonsense I've read here and elsewhere... All of that is enough for me to spend my money on someone else's product.

Also he flips the f@$k out if anybody questions the outlandish claims or even asks to see a map.

I may have purchased a handheld unit and tune from them, but Troy’s responses to people on this forum and on Facebook sent me running.

I would consider them if I was nearby their shop and they actually had my bike on their dyno

I appreciate this insight.

I saw that dimsport and slr tuning were mentioned. Are they affiliated with Bren tune?

Definitely entertaining. I do agree a lot of tuning has become about marketing and hype, rather than the science. It wrecks some of the credibility. It completely turned me off of using some of these tuners, because so many flash users don't do before and after dynos that show independent definite positive results.

Funny that I don't see it as much in automotive tuning. Probably because of programs like HPtuners where most of the time the end users can see what was actually changed in the tune. No smoke and mirrors.

My cousin used the Brentune handheld on his 2020 S1K, and eventually took it in to a dyno shop for a proper flash/tune. They ran it and took a look at the Brentune before doing anything and found it was messing with ignition timing to incredibly dangerous levels. They said the bike was one bad tank of gas away from grenading itself. Turned me off from the product completely.

Yes. In these bikes that are already at a HP that most riders can't fully utilize and are incredibly high compression, I would rather take an exhaust system, tune for safe AFR and rideability and leave the ignition timing alone, instead of trying to seek every last HP.

95% of street riders should do just that, but they don’t.

I sure do hope the team at Duc is working on an active exhaust system like a Ferrari where it roars upon start up but quickly mellows down to “oem quiet”

My neighbors hate my bikes

I wear earplugs
