Just come back from a ride on my 1299s and was checking the bike over and noticed these marks on the rear tyre. What is it? Cold tear?

A tad concerned as I haven't done anything different to any other ride out!

That's what it looks like to me, but mine had less meat. The factory sipes were almost gone on mine at that point

After the initial run-in, I did a few high speed runs on a stretch of highway and a lot of hard acceleration getting there and by the end of my ride my tires looked like that. The pirellis are sticky, but they don't last very long. I think I ended up getting around 1200 miles out of my first set of tires...:D
I'd swap tires as soon as you can, it only gets worse from there -- and a tire coming apart while riding isn't really that much fun.

The center of your tire is worn out. Looks like its time for a new tire...those are the belts you're seeing.
Can't be. The sides seem to have lots of meat. I thought tyres always run out on the side first before the middle, except in cruisers?

Cheers folks. I have never in 14 years of riding have seen a worn tyre look that. It's the horizontal marks that confused me. It's just typical that the damn thing wears out just before the end of the season! I'm not a fast rider by any shot. The tyre has done 3024 miles of road riding. 675 were as a demo bike. Need more corners for the next one.

+1 and once you get to the belts, the remaining rubber wears off like crazy, giving you the weird patterns you have...

Not bad for that tire. I got 4672 miles from it, but mostly easy highway driving. I'm just over 8000 miles now and my front is nearly a slick, but no belts. Don't need replies on how unsafe it is, I know. Just getting my money's worth.

yup, you'll see chord after that. I took my first set back in 2013 past that state and its not safe.
