How is the dash "unlock" possible?

2020 MY had Evo2. 2021 MY has Evo3 software standard.

It's not your fault, but Ducati really ...... people up with the electronics package names.

There's EVO2 and EVO3 software on 2020/2021 bikes. However, there is a difference between EVO2 and EVO 2. Yes, Ducati has two completely different things with the same name except one has a space. EVO 2 is the track-oriented "upgrade" that reprogram the TC to work better with slicks and unlocks the dash. It is different from the EVO2 and EVO3 software packages.

So you can have a 2021 bike with EVO3 software and pay 700 bucks for the EVO 2 package. Or, you could have a previous year model with EVO2 software and still have to pay that money for the EVO 2 package. Not confusing at all, Ducati.

To confuse things further...

DTC EVO3 - Software for slick – rain tyres.

Verify any further restrictions with the relevant race course. Motorcycles equipped with this accessory are prohibited from operating on public roads.

The Ducati Traction & Wheelie Control Evo 3 for Racing tyres is now available also for the Panigale V4 MY21. Developed together with Ducati Corse technicians to considerably improve laptime, with both slick and rain tyres. EVO3 is a further evolution of Ducati Traction Control, improved with refined strategy derived from Ducati Corse and designed so that throttle opening when coming out of the corner becomes even easier and more predictable. During this riding phase there can be an unwanted and unexpected slippage of the rear wheel due to the peak acceleration of the crankshaft, normally at the end of the backlash phase of the drive line. This disturbs the rider while increasing the throttle at the maximum leaning angle. The new software predictively adjusts the torque delivered by Desmosedici Stradale, calibrating the angular acceleration of the crankshaft to make the recovery phase more fluid. This translates into a more neutral behaviour when coming out of the corner and thus a better feeling and riding control. It can be used both with standard and with Racing exhaust; it can be set to 8 different levels (6 for dry track and 2 for wet track and Rain tyres), which allow each rider to adjust the control strategy to his/her own riding style and grip conditions, in order to achieve top performance.

They should have designated the upgrade for use with slicks with an R, so EVO2R or EVO3R.

From what I gather from Ducati's website, is that the 2021 bikes come with DTC DWC Evo 3. You can add Evo3 which changes the parameters to match slicks. Its made more confusing since their site refers to the same product as EVO3 and Evo 3. The big difference is the mention of slicks.

I'm kind of intrigued with this. Who is Ducati targeting? These guys? Is there anyone on this board that has actually convinced themselves that they need this? Man you guys must be really fast.

They did make a video about EVO 3 that comes on the bike. They get into it about half way through and it seems to be a torque limiting function when the bike is leaned over and the rider is just beginning to get on the throttle. I've heard of this before and its come up in discussions here, with BSB they do the same torque limiting thing since traction control isn't allowed.
