Greeting All,

Here is my update on my 2014 1199s i picked up from the dealership in June.

Total miles on bike - 2572

Three trips so far.

Trip 1

Chicago - Springfield : 209 miles

Springfield - Chicago : 209 miles

Observations: 1) Still getting used to the bike. 2) Not familliar with suspension setup. 3) Coming to terms with fuel consumption characteristics.

Trip 2

Chicago - Milwaukee : 86 mlies
Milwaukee - Madison : 80 miles
Madison - Minneapolis : 270 miles
Minneapolis - Des Moines : 244 miles
Des Moines - Chicago : 338 miles

Observations: 1) Long distinace riding is not an issue with this bike, however rider must find ideal semi tuck position based on height , weight etc ( i still have the standard seat). 2) Attracted lots of positive attention from other travellers at the Harley Davidson museum in Milwaukee :) 3) LED headlights are superb. Took off to Des Moines at 4.30am from Minneapolis and saw the real effect of the LED headlights for the first time. I cannot imagine why LED lights are not standard for all bikes ( costs / pricing constraints?)

Trip 3

Chicago - Grand Rapids : 184 miles
Grand Rapids - Cheboygan :232 miles
Cheboygan - Escanaba : 162 miles
Escanaba - Green Bay : 110 miles
Green Bay - Milwaukee : 120 miles
Milwaukee - Chicago : 86 miles

Observations : At this point there is only one thing left to say...This machine is truly a spectacular combination of technical wizardry and raw primal force creating a machine that give the rider the ultimate motor cycle riding experience. A couple of Harley riders i met along the way said pretty much the same thing. After seeing the color dash and the various modes, one marine vet with a heritage soft-tail stated, quite clearly, that he was going to do a trade in for a base 1199.

The Pirelli Supercorsas seem to be holding up well so far but i do keep a close eye on the tires at every fuel stop. My brake and clutch fluid may need to be changed soon and will probably get that done soon.

Please feel free to comment.

Don't worry about your tires. Long distance riding will give you double the mileage of aggressive / city riding. It's accelerating, braking and cornering that destroy tires, not miles. With the exception of one set that saw several track days, I don't think I ever needed tires until 5000 miles. Even Supercorsa SCs last a good long time.

Your brake and clutch fluids are easy to flush, btw....a good idea to learn to do it yourself. Will save you a ton of money and takes minutes.

I posted the how-to's here:
Wrenching ? AntiHero

Great to see another owner going the distance on their Panigale.

Thanks Anti Hero!

Thanks for the information about tire wear. I am planning to do the fluid change after this weekend at Indianapolis. It will be the first time I'm doing it myself and I'm sure your instructions will be very helpful!

It was your experience (IT guy on a Panigale going round the USA) that helped me with my decision because I'm an IT guy as well!

I cannot tell you how glad I am that I came across your article!

Thanks again Anti hero!

Thank you for this post. It reminded me I need to get my PSI back up to street pressure before I kill these tires too as I did my last set.
