So can anyone say roughly how much it would cost mechanically to get the S to an R? Apart from the full Termi exhaust as I have that.

Quite a lot i expect... 1198R con rods are £2200 each (inc VAT)
so i would expect similar figure for 1199

then you have to get the engine built, the crankshaft is lightened as well so that would be added cost

do you think the differences would be noticable enough to justify the cost and the the rods are really just adding reliability for racing

Yup! Unless you have the mill constantly spinning around the redline, there isn't really that much of a benefit.

Buy your favourite carbon bits, maybe even a trick paint job - you would have something far more personalised and unique.

Just IMO :)

Thanks guys just the kinda response was after... Makes me feel a lot better and to be honest unless you are racing the thing all the time then no point getting the R

Your money would be better spent buying real mag wheels. There is not so much diff. in the S to the R. If all of us S owners knew that the R was only a couple grand more we would have waited. For once I am satified with the S and have no desire to buy the R, if I was in the market now I would buy the R. There are so many option on the R that are bolt on. Like said before the rods are just for durability when racing. Yeah the swing arm pivot is cool, but change it once and your done, not much there unless racing. This S model has so much to offer, that is why I had no problem selling my 999r to get it. In my eyes this was an R without the label on the faring. I wouldn't try to make your bike like the R, make it better.

Easier to trade in and just bite the bullet than trying to upgrade the bike imo or to have just waited for the R model that we all knew was coming. But any of these specials imo like the S1RR HP2 and the 1199R are only for the pros. On track ''we'' won't notice the difference. Nothing against owning one of these but if you own a 1199 already you already have an incredible machine. I just do not believe the difference is worth the coin.

I agree also, for me, its just down having trick parts for fun. Not many will come close to the performance of a base model. I had an R and after the wow factor was over, and getting beat up on value depreciation, I'll never get another. I like putting trick parts on my bike, I couldnt affford them when i raced, so now its just for fun. If I could justify putting gas charged forks on my bike , I would. Pure bling lol....Isnt that what we all do! As for ppl who are getting a R, im not jealous..............no I am.
