Pretty good mechanic and removing this middle/upper fairing on my 1299R FE is annoying AF. there is a pop button of some sort connecting the nose piece to the fairing. I see the picture. I think the center pops out but I can’t get anything under it. And trying to remove from the outer diameter is futile and seems wrong. What am I doing wrong here?

Push that center pin in, it will release the outer button so you can pull it out pretty easily.

Thanks. A buddy also knew this. YouTube videos you used a flat screwdriver to pop it out. Not push it in.

Maybe you’ll know this too. Trying to remove this hose clamp. It’s not obvious how to squeeze to expand. Crazy Italians

That will pop apart if you take a small screwdriver and twist it between the metal tabs. Hard to explain, but the clamp is reusable.

That’s what it looked like. I could see they were on separate ‘levels’ but twisting with screwdriver it didnt move. Does it actually pop out and not slowly move? I may need a larger screwdriver actually.

When you pop the latch the clamp releases its clamping force which allows you to slide it off.

There are usually screws/fasteners hidden all over on the 1199/1299. Just make sure to look around if the fairing isn’t letting go. Also, be aware of the washers that will fall into the deep abyss of the bike if you’re not aware of them when removing the pieces. Good luck.

That’s for sure. Also hooks on the fairing to keep it tight. I can do the fairing quickly now but not first time.

I mastered a few choice words when removing the fairing, be sure to route the wires back correctly on the top this will save you frustration check they lay in the groves correctly getting the two bolts back will be a challenge if you don’t

the push pin doesn't look like an original part to me. if you have to reuse it, place it somewhere where you can get to the back side.
