The V2 manual calls for removing the sump and cleaning the oil pickup mesh filter. The instructions start with "Remove the exhaust"...
I ride a lot (street), and am doing frequent oil changes (every ~2k miles). Realistically, how often should I do this maintenance? Is the V2 unique in its way? I've always changed my bikes' oil but never did this item.
Thank you all for the help.

Do it not that frequently but do it.
If you do the search on this forum about failed water pump gears on ••99’s you will see in pictures attached all the junk that gets caught by that pickup screen.
By cleaning it you are preventing engine oil starvation due to screen being blocked!!!

Does anyone have a good step-by-step guide on how to do this? Just did an oil change, and found slivers in my oil. I want to prolong the window before I do a full tear down.

Remove exhaust , drain oil , remove sump bolts, 1 bolt holding the pickup , check for any debris, clean off gasket on sump and engine block , new gasket put back together
