V4 Broken again....

Evening all,

Sorry for the delayed reply I have been away for a few days.

Just to be clear the bike was properly run in as per the Ducati manual. At the time of the latest failure it had done about 3500km...

As an update unfortunately the bike is still in the workshop..... (its spend over 6 weeks there since i took delivery).

For some reason despite the misfire rendering it unridable there are no error codes stored in the system. And because the Ducati techs over here are not much more than tyre fitters they are not up to the task of diagnosing the problem.
So what they are doing is taking it for a ride then downloading the riding logs, emailing them to Italy for review then waiting to see what the Italians say to try next.

Its been broken for over a week now and we are no further forward than the day it went wrong.

So sorry to hear Bradoshi. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Is there a way for you to get the communications between the factory and the dealership over there, I'd be interested in looking at them for you to see if we could be of assistance.
As for not going straight to the track with these machines, we have broken a few in at the track and a few on the dyno, trust me when I say they can take it!

By the looks of it none of his issues have been caused by proper run in or the old trust me run in .
Lol

Rumor has it, it’s coming at WDW. I assume it’ll hit production next Spring?

I may wait until "2nd Gen" R and see what special versions Ducati will make like FE R, SL, Demo RR?!?

Might not be a bad idea... if I get one it'll be for racing... but I do love the fact that I can run the 1199 in HWT class along with other liter classes. Although HWT class in WERA is shrinking.

How is the service on your V4 coming along? I hope that you've made some progress?

Same with mine,

I have a V4 Speciale

Nearly 4 months 600 miles. It has spent ~4 weeks of that, In the Ducati workshop.
1- Quick Shifter Replacement (2 weeks)
2- Counter-Shaft oil leaks (2 weeks)
3- Counter-Shaft Oil leak (2 time, going in again)

Not happy with this purchase...

C'mon... we're not a bunch of idiots around here that don't know a reed valve from a choke. Of course they're race bikes, just like my 959, but that doesn't mean I take it to the track just off the showroom floor and put the engine through the ringer.

What if I was to tell you that every single one of these bikes are put through the ringer in every gear for 12 minutes on a dyno before ever leaving the factory?

It's to bed the rings in not run the motor in

I get that, but it also debunked the whole "take it easy and don't rev it past x amount of RPM" theory for me when I watched it being taken to redline dozens of times.

No manufacturer would ever write in the owner's manual ... "to run in the engine correctly you need to drive it HARD!. The harder the better. We would like you to rev the engine hard so the rings eat into the cross hatch and bed in to form a good seal."

If they did write that and someone crashes they would sue the manufacturer because "they told me to do it!"

They also don't tell you to come back after a HARD 100km round trip and change the run in oil we filled the engine with so as to get rid of the metal that you just wore away (correctly and necessarily) running the engine in.

But in fact it's what you SHOULD do.

Sorry to hear about that, i wouldn't be happy either if my 40K bike had this many issues.

What number is your Speciale?
Just want to know the quality issue based on production number.

Mine is #370 and haven't had any issues other than the air in the clutch.
