Got to the track...

Well I do, in fact I am likely doing NCBike this weekend but, I have to scratch my itch in between track days lol.

I don't commute or do joy rides on my bike, when I ride im suited up and ride with a purpose....on less risky low traffic back roads.

Agreed this bike is very easy to ride, that is until the rear tire starts to wear-out. I could have turned up the TC but that's not fun.

Had my first real extended back roads ride on a dry warm sunny day. Bike is amazing(V4s). Handling feels totally neutral and light. Really impressive. I turned the fork preload to 5 turns in from full out. Before was two turns in. Could not tell much difference. The electronic suspension is really nice. My only real complaint is that the low fuel light came on at 96 miles and I was not riding the bike very hard at all.

I haven't had to tweak my suspension any but, I should. I was struggling at a track event recently but, I think it was more so my choice in tires. rear suspension may have had a little to do with it but I didn't want to make any adjustments until I reinstalled the OEM or Pirelli slicks im used to.

in regards to low fuel, yes I think in addition to bad fuel consumption the light also comes on prematurely. In the past my Ducati SBK gas lights comes on at 120 miles of hard riding, then I know I have 25-30 miles of play time left. I haven't tested that theory with this bike yet but, when I do go fill up I seem to have a whole 1.5 gals in reserve hmmm.

Goodstuff Ducenzo. Some buddies of mine and I are hitting the Smokey's this week to do the same thing. Ride safe.

Nicely done!

I need to start working up to this. Have a few inches of unused tire as it is.

I used to do a lot of track days on a Honda RC51 and could really torture tires on that bike. Much more cautious on the street. I feel like I have leaned my V4s over pretty far on some nice roads and still have an inch or so of unscrubbed tire on that huge 200/60 back tire. Looks like the profile of that tire will require some pretty radical lean angles to scrub to the edges. Not sure i will ever get there even on the track. Even doing a track day I am going to be a little bit cautious for two reasons. The first is I am 61 years old and my best riding skills are years behind me. The second is that I really do not want to crash a 30K bike!

First off I applaud you, I hope to be riding hard and hopefully still tracking at that age :).

The 200/60 Is a lot of tire to use up especially on the street. You know what I've done with every Duc I've owned "¦.NOT be afraid of laying her down !! Some may be offended by this statement but, they're all disposable at the end of the day.

The good thing is that the tire performance will be the last thing on your mind and that CONFIDENCE all day !!

I'm actually still wearing the Dunlop Slicks I used on the track a few weeks and ago and did not have a good experience with them. I struggled all day with tire pressure and never got it right. Well, the Dunlop guy said it was right but I just couldn't adapt to the feel and actually caused me to run off the track twice. When pushing it I felt like the rear tire's side wall was collapsing when I apply power on corner exit. Worse feeling ever!!
I am a Pirelli guy all day !!

Just put some miles on her and you'll naturally start pushing harder ;-).

A group of us are doing the Dragon for a weekend in July, I haven't committed yet though but i'll likely go.

Id definitely put the OEM tires back on though, these Dunlops aren't cutting it.

The sales guy at Ducati Redmond told me you have to recalibrate the bike for different size tires. He showed me a choice in the settings somewhere. Did you do that? I think you have to train the electronics for the different size tires.

When the 1199 came out They tried to make a big deal about the TC not working properly if you changed the tire profile. I would always use a 190/55 on track or when I did run Q3 and never have an issue.

So though I knew this Was possible to calibrate the V4, didn't think it would be that critical. Hmmm

Have no fear my friend, they will hang on .I scrubbed and cold tore them all the way to the edge on a patchy wet and dry mountain road last weekend. Have some confidence in your tyres, they will always hang on more than you think.

I hear you. I used to give tires hell on my RC51. Kind of been there done that. I will probably do a track day on my V4s at some point and the speed and tire wear will be what it is. At my age its crazy enough to even ride a V4s, and at this point it's all about having fun with no particular goals in mind in terms of lap times and tire wear. I didn't start doing sport bikes and track days until my 40s and spent a lot of days shooting for that magic lap time. Once I got it I lost interest in that aspect. I wouldn't be surprised if a decent lap time pops out with the V4s though. It is such an easy bike to ride with the rider aids optimized.

Firstly, it is not crazy to be cracking about on a V4s at your age.I'm not to far behind you, and you gotta do these things before you are no longer able.
Secondly,I totally agree about the lap times and tyre wear. I also lost interest in that crap years ago. I have been doing the sports bike caper since the early two stroke days, but I have to admit, after I noticed the state of the rear tyre when I got home last weekend,it made me smile and think " Yep, still a F#&ckwit after all these years" haha

It's good to have you back in full swing on the forums wilks, the V4 seems to have invigorated the humour.

I have been ignoring the elephant in the room for a few days thinking someone else will ask the question . .... it I might as well
