Hi all,

I'm looking to get into my first duc. It's a toss up between a 959 and V4.

I know with the 959, it brings the power down from 158 to ~100 with wet mode; smoother power delivery as well.

I can't find any info on the V4's engine modes. All I know is that you can set the engine to low, medium, high. The DTC EVO/IMU (plus of course: clear coat, single sided swing arm, display, downblipper, etc) are selling me more on this vs. the 959, but I'm just not ready for 215HP.

Maybe you're looking for this?:

What? How is it even a choice between those two?!?!

Go try test riding at a dealership no?

V4 engine modes don't change the peak power hp if I remember correctly. Just checked the User Manual and the power adjustment changes throttle response only.

If you don't think you're ready for 200+hp, get the 959. Ride within your limits. These bikes aren't going anywhere. Good luck.

sport and race no power change just throttle response . my dealer ran me through everything .

if you are not ready for 215 hp, take the 959 and practice your body position instead of leaning the bike all the way to the surface without moving your butt. V4 is too nimble to play with.

Hi

I bought a Speciale and when my dealer ran me through the modes, he definitely said the street mode was 100 bhp down from sport and race

I don't think you need to be wary of the 214bhp figure at all. This bike is probably the most rider-friendly of all litre 'track bikes', thanks to its latest-gen electronics. The three riding modes modulate traction, cornering, slide control, wheelie control, launch control, engine braking and the electronic suspension. The Street mode offers a safety net, setting the suspension for comfort and offers a progressive throttle response. Sport mode gives you a crisp throttle response and a firmer suspension set-up to Street mode. It also dials-in the electronics to a level where they help less-experienced riders experience the full power of the bike in a relatively safe manner. In this mode, the Slide-by-brake system is active, as is the rear wheel lift control system. The Race mode sets up the systems for a more experienced rider, with low levels of electronic intervention, without turning any of the assists fully off – but that can be done separately, if the rider desires. Suspension goes into a high-performance, hard setup – but it can be further tweaked, if needed. Finally, the Cornering ABS function is reserved only to the front wheel and ABS is deactivated at the rear.

You can potter around town in Street mode without frightening yourself. The e-nannies make sure of that. 214bhp never felt so manageable.

The maps do not change with the modes. Each mode either slows the throttle response or wet mode slows the throttle response and does not let the throttle body open all the way, thus not achieving peak power.
