It'll be snowing here pretty soon so time to go thru the valvetrain (and time the cams). There still seems to be no aftermarket 5mm shim sets (I have a lot of 7mm shims). Ducati wants $18 a shim (ridiculous). This will force me to take the whole valvetrain apart in the hope I can save costs by swapping shims about. Since when I'm done they will all be at 2 thou on the closers and 5 on the openers, undoubtedly, I'll have to buy some. So if any you are also doing this, when I get there I will list the shims I need and the ones I don't need any more. If enough folks are doing this over the winter maybe we can swap. Thanks.

No takers I see. I thot I'd post the steps involved to take both valve covers off. 1)Take entire bike apart (you can leave the swingarm and airbox on). 2) Remove valve covers. 8 hrs of disassembly time. So to properly reshim the valvetrain the quotes of 3K$ seem about right.

Six openers and 10 closers are beyond the assembly spec on the loose side. One tight opener (not good). I'm waiting for some dial indicator accessories to allow me to check cam timing before the cams come out.

9700 miles. Ridden gently, never flogged except everytime I ride it. To put the closers on the minimum spec I'll have to change all of them. Everything looks good. I'll degree and measure the cams then take them out. Ducati is allowing greater closer clearances since they went from the half rings to the collets in the closers. I have one opener at the end of the checking spec. The only thing I find weird is I have an opener at .003 inch. I wonder if the collets run in like the half rings which ran in and added closer clearance.
