Hey guys first post here. I have been interested in a 1199 for some time. I own a 2011 zx10r right now. Its a nice bike. Happy with it. I just love the look of the panigale. Mainly going to be a street bike. Probably wont track it. Too expensive. But a fine street machine to do some twisties on and regular street ride.

I have a loan on my zx10r still. So I need to get out from under it. Dealership I have been talking to offered me 6500 for the ninja. Blue book retail is 8100 so its a bit of a thin deal. They always want to buy low sell high. I get it. But That puts me about 2k in the hole. I was going to make up the difference by putting a larger down payment on the panigale.

My other issue is they have a 2013 panigale abs model. But they are asking retail for it. As soon as I take it off the lot it looses almost 4k in value.

Honestly what should my bottom line be on a 2013 model new with no miles?

He offered me 20100 out the door with and 1100 dollar down payment. Seems very high for a 2013 model. But then again im trading. Should I not trade the bike and just sell private and then shop? Obviously id get more money but the hassle of selling on my own.

I could buy a 2014 for the same price elsewhere. I know its the same machine for the most part but the year does matter down the road for trading or selling. Just means more negative equity.

Any advice would be awesome on what I should try to do with this dealership.

If you're wanting to get a red color, get a 2014 unless you find a 2013 for less than 16k OTD. Sell your bike on your own n deal with the hassle unless your time is worth money n you .... benjamins, but seeing as how you still owe on it and have given clues to say otherwise, I'd sell it privately, then buy 2014 if all you can do is work the same OTD for 13 and 14. If a dealer isn't budging CONSIDERABLY for a 2013, I wouldn't give them my business....2013 or 2014.

The bike depreciates a lot as soon as you take it home.

The difference in depreciation is 1175. He would have to at least drop the price that much for me to even consider. Cant believe he is trying to get that for a 2013. Crazy. You think 16 OTD is doable? He had some freight charges and a 99 dollar warranty fee. Never seen that before. warranty fee I mean.

Im gonna call around some other dealers. See what they say. All are going to try and screw me on trade. I need to sell outright. I could give someone a good deal and still make out better then what this guy is offering. I understand they cant pay too much but it sucks for the guy trading in. LOL

Lucky I got a pretty good deal on the 10r. So my equity isn't that bad. I can get caught up with a little payment on the loan. I just gotta get rid of the green bike man. hahahaha. I cant do it. The red is calling my name. Duc is so sweet.

Thank you for the insight.

I meant 16otd for a used. Just look around here on the forums. There are some great deals on occasions. A warranty fee? Really? $99 nickel and diming at its best. Obvious sign to leave that dealer alone. You won't get a new for 16otd due to dealer prep fees but private sale, yes. If you don't care about 2013/2014, get a used 2013 and save on not having to do the first service and then buy the extended warranty for peace of mind whether you end up using it or not. If you must have new, there should be at least $1000 difference with the 2013 being cheaper if not more than $1000.

I went in another direction, but I have been offered, on eBay, a new 2013 1199S for $20.5K shipped.

What the dealer isn't telling you is that you can save thousands by buying one that isn't painted...the code for the dealer is "primer white" they'll know what you want and order accordingly.

It's a simple case of then just painting it yourself.

Just make sure you do paint it, there's a few floating around that are still white. Not sure id want to be seen on a white one...they look odd without paint ;)

He is not the only ducati dealer in US so shop around.

I live in IL and bought my bike from Mellimoto Ducati in FL. I saved $2k by buying out of state. No frieght/prep/documentation fee. You pay taxes in your state during registration.

The shipping varies but shouldn't be more than $500.

Call various ducati dealers and someone will offer you a good deal. I'd recommend Mellimoto cause I got a very good deal and the store has A+ customer service.

Just something to consider - If you trade in your bike you pay taxes on only the difference. Taxes in chicago are super high so that is one positive of trading in - Also you won't have to deal with people who seem to be interested only in joyrides.

Ya I emailed him and told him that 1175 needed to come off right away or there was no deal. Plus the bs fees. Since when did ducati charge a warranty fee? LOL

My only drawback is the trade. He told me he was at least guaranteed to get his money back on what he offered me. But I think Im going to try and do private sale of the zx10r. Even giving someone a good deal like 8k I still come out better then the lowball figure he gave me. I got 3500 coming shortly for my trackbike. That's my down payment on a machine that I probably wont buy from this dealership. There is a few within striking distance of me so Im gonna call around. Heck I found a deal in mass for 16200 on one. Not sure if its new or not though. Doesn't say.

I want to get a new one by the way. The interest rate and terms are better for me on a new machine. Keeps my payments semi reasonable.

Put an add out for your Kawie at a reasonable price and wait. You need to be able to suffer all the idiots quietly and not let emotion get the better of you. If you were to loose more than what makes sense to you just hang on to it for a while, your buyer will come.

So here is what I think you have at hand...

Trade: 6500 plus the tax savings on that.. If the taxes at your place is around 8% then you have another 520 bucks in taxes that you are not paying in taxes when you look at the net difference in price between the bikes. So you'd have to the sell the bike for more than 7k to really make it worth while to sell privately. If I was in your shoes then I'd say if I can sell for more than 7500 I'd consider a private sale and if not I'd just trade in to avoid the hassle.

New bike: I don't think you have a good deal plus ducati has a 1200 credit on all 2013 new 1199 towards accessories. If this is a used 2013 then that won't apply and it sucks as you can get a better deal elsewhere should they have a leftover 13. What is the selling price of the new bike? OTD prices have all sorts of fees that you can negotiate but what's the real price of the bike before any fees and if you can get two dealers competing for your business then you can get some of those silly fees waived.

I think that's the smart idea. I'm going to pay my bike off with my credit card and sell. 6500 is just too low. Screw trading in.

I will come out way better in the long run doing it this way and I can negotiate better not having the extra baggage.

True. I forgot about the trade in credit. Its a brand new bike. But he is asking MSRP of 18995 on it. Plus 409.00 freight, 499 handling fee and 99 dollar warranty fee. 159 dollar DOC fees.

Basically everything with no deal on a bike that's a year out of date. Why do that when I can just buy a 2014 for the same price and not get the depreciation hit? I don't need accessories. I have gear already. Jacket, Full Leathers, helmet, gloves. I need a cheaper price. LOL

20161 and and equity hole of 1686.

For a 2013?

Knock 1100 off the msrp, lose the fees seems much better. haha.

Just noticed his MSRP is 1k more then what it should be.

It says 17995 every where im reading online. I should probably run. LOL

2013 msrp is 18,995 since it includes abs. 2012 had a non abs option which was 17,995 so if it listed at 17,995, that's already a $1000 off msrp.

Ah i see. I though abs was standard on these bikes?

I read 17995 and it still said it had abs. Maybe a typo.

Still 18995 for a 2013 is robbery.

If he is not going down from 18995 then he must be burying negative equity in there to get you financed. Most banks don't do much of an advance on top of the bikes price to get the loan going regardless of credit worthiness of the applicant.

So he might be showing you 18995 but there might be the 2k that you are bringing along to go in there... but then again they'd mention that to you... If the sales rep didn't mention that and this is what they are doing then he failed at being a sales rep...lol
