Hey guys, I'm at the 1600 mile mark and have a pretty good feel for my bike and have noticed a few things that are of concern to me, please chime in if you've experienced the same or similar.
When punching the throttle for aggressive acceleration- the bike appears to behave as if the clutches are slipping; before you comment on my possible abuse I can honestly say I've ridden the bike fairly normally (softly) without much "race" pace but the few times i've punched the throttle, the bike produces a "rev" sound but doesn't actually accelerate.....I've been riding 25+ years and have yet to burn out a set of clutches and from the light use this bike has seen, I don't see how I could have burnt out these clutches. I posted in an earlier thread about the "feel" of traction control and I thought perhaps this "slipping" was TC but I'm not seeing the yellow TC light people indicated I would see......anyone else have any weird slipping clutch/rev feel to their bike?

Another issue is that I occasionally hear sounds from the engine as if something is "loose" like a nut or something- I don't know a better way to describe it....when I hear this it is sometimes accompanied by a lurching/surging/hiccup type jerk response....it's most unsettling and causes me to fear something is loose in the engine. The engine has been working well with no issues other than this sound and a real buzzy feeling to it at the handlebars which causes me to tire as this bike is super buzzy!

I have to admit I'm concerned over these issues and I don't have 100% confidence in this bike as I don't want to crash due to a mechanical fault. I've contacted the dealer where i purchased the bike and they've slated a date to drop off the bike for an inspection, my fear is that they find nothing wrong....

..either way I'm not happy....either the engine has to be torndown to inspect for loose parts or the clutch is burnt (not as bad.)

engine noise

Hey Steve just read your post and I can tell you that i"ve heard a particuler noise from my motor, I also heard it on the demo bike when I rode that first. I"m an auto mechanic and I dont think its anything to worry about, assuming we are talking the same thing. I would describe the sound as a very light knock or tapping, not there all the time tho. Must be at certain revs. Sorry I can"t be more accurate,i"m out riding tomorrow and i"ll see if i can pick up when it happens and get back to you see if it rings true with your experience. I"m only at 250miles at mo,still running in so can"t comment on other gremlin you have. Regarding the noise i"ve heard, I had already decided it was just a specific charachteristic noise and i"m not worried. It will get worse if something aint right. Take it easy.

SupDuc, thanks for the reply.....yes the engine noise is somewhat sporadic but it is usually accompanied by an erratic surge or dip- it's weird to say the least. If I knew for certain it's a normal thing I can live with it- my concern is that something is wrong.

As for the revving without accelerating, that's an issue I've yet to hear anyone else complain about.

Thanks SupDuc.

engine noise

No prob Ste. I hear your concern. Can"t say i"ve had any surging or dipping, coinciding with the engine noise i"ve heard. Would you say it was throttle related? does the bike lose power then pick up? is that how you mean when surging? This is only a guess but a couple of cars i"ve worked on with electric throttle bodies had bad connections on the wiring plugs and this caused the venturi flap to flutter uncontrollably with an assosciated rattle. If that was happening on the Pani I reckon it would sound pretty bad as the throttle bodies are right underneath the fuel tank inside the monocoque.

I'm not sure if the "loose nut" sound is throttle related, it just seems as if something is getting tossed around in the engine, it then sometimes hiccups and pauses the throttle response for a second- then everything resumes to normal...like I said, it's a bit unsettling to experience and doesn't allow me to feel fully confident, I'm mentally waiting for the bike to seize!

Slightly off topic- where can I source parts for the 1199 online with prices- I'd like to see what a new set of clutches costs these days for this bike?

A freind of mine who is very mechanically savvy thinks my clutches maybe getting stuck causing premature wear and is also the source of the surging i'm experiencing as well as that loose noise I've been hearing/feeling.....what do you guys think of that possibility?

There's threads regarding sticking clutches and the 1199, so I'm thinking this can be the culprit....looking for the forums feedback on this line of thinking.

Will my dealer warranty this or will I be told worn clutches are not covered? (Sticky clutch)
