So my wife and I spend about 5 weeks in Europe every year. This year I made it a point to stop by the factory in Bologna to see where my new baby was born. It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. If any of you ever find yourself in Italy, do yourself a favor and take a quick train there and do the tour. Unfortunately photos are only allowed in the Museum portion of the tour. The factory tour was by far the best part. My biggest takeaway was how small Ducati really is. It's roughly the size of a SAM's stateside. Ducati Corse is located underground and strictly off limits. On to the pics:

We had to make a quick stop in Dresden for the last MotoGP round. Should've gone to Assen instead.

Track side food and beer were definitely better than Jerez

Many thanks for including us in your wonderful trip to the Birthplace of our bikes!
The photos were the icing on the cake - or should i say the mustard on the sausage!

Great thread and happy you had the chance to experience that opportunity :)

They were cranking out more Scramblers than anything by a long shot. I thought it was cool that the Panigale had its own department whereas everything else is pretty much built by the same folks. As most of us know, all of our bikes get put on the dyno before leaving but what I didn't know is that they have to idle for 30 minutes afterwards for emissions testing.

I found it somewhat humorous that in their MotoGP lineup Rossi's bike wasn't displayed. There's no mention of him anywhere but of course Troy Bayliss is god and has his own dedicated room with memorabilia.

Kinda kills the notion of the rough vs. recommended break-in theories doesn't it??? If they idle for 30 minutes, then all the rough break-in crowd is kinda fuc&#d IMO. LOL

I don't know...

I watched them put a new 1299 on the dyno. They really put it through the ringer. Every gear is tested thoroughly. I watched the entire process and it takes 12 minutes.

Yup, every Pani is broken in on a dyno. The break in threads are pure bull malarkey. Every performance engine should be broken in on a dyno, if not every single engine. I have no idea if the japanese sportbikes get dyno'd at the factory. I break in every 5766 horsepower diesel engine I sell on a load bank.

And the stuff I build and sell on my personal time, goes straight to a performance shops dyno as soon as it's in a car. And no warranty on any of that.
