Hey,

Well it has come to that time to change my front brake pads. What are people recommendation?

In the beginning i love the standard pads the feel was great but as they started to wear they just started to feel very average :/ I have ridden my mates bmw s1000rr more than afew times and the bite and feel of his front brakes just feels way better

Cheers

Well in my opinion it's pretty hard to beat the brakes on the 1199.
The stock standard front pads in the 1199 are the same as the preceding model's "R" pads.

In the preceding model "R" the same pads had more bite, with the difference being the callipers and master cylinder(I think).

Maybe you Could look into the Ferrodo pads for a variation on stock bite and feel.
Or get a BMW:eek:

Don't get me wrong when new the brakes felt amazing, i think i may have let the pads wear alittle too much hence for the average feel now.

Been looking on the brembo website and think the SC pads might be the go over the Road SA

Your assessment regarding the new pad feeling V the old/worn pad feeling is absolutely correct.

Also keep in mind the road compound will in all likelihood provide much better rotor life and give better performance under real world road riding conditions.
To me the SA road compound looks to be the pick of the lot.

I would expect the SC compound to be harder on the rotors.
Especially if they're not up to their optimal operating temps and running too cool.

Are those charts you posted for motorcycle pad compounds?
From memory the motorcycle compounds have different designations.

That is off the brembo website for the motorcycle pads.

I plan to hit the track some more, so was planning to go for a pad that would be better suited for road/track. i found the stock pads lose little bit of there bite after few laps at the local track, as the two main braking zones are after the long straights.

ATM i have my local workshop looking into pads for me and are pricing up a selection of pads which would best suit my application, so i will see what they say 1st

i have to agree ebc hh equal if not better at a way cheaper price.

+2. Just popped a set in the other day. For road use mind you, so maybe not the optimum for a big initial bite on track. Pads are a personal feel thing of course; like running shoes!

just changed my stock pads out with EBC HH sintered a few weeks ago and they work amazingly. better than OEM in my opinion. no track experience with them but amazing bite and feel on the road. great price too.

I noticed some brake fade also but I checked the pads and they were good so I put my calipers on the rotors and found the rotors are close to its min thickness at 4.5mm. Mine was at 4.6 so I'm going to try the Brembo HPK rotors which are lighter and thicker than the stock rotors.

On face value I think EBC are good value.
However my experience is that they seem to be a bit harder on the rotors, which in turn necessitates earlier change of the rotors.

I find that the original stock pads are well suited to the rotor material in terms of all round performance and longevity.

DUCATI have been using this combination of the Brembo pads on the front, and Ferodo pads on the rear since the 1098, and I think it's for good reasons.

If you don't like the stock pads, EBC HH sintered for street and EBC EPFA for track days are my preference.

I think I should definitely try EBC. Currently trying to find pads that are harshest on the rotors. As long as my stock rotors are ok, my wife won't let me upgrade them....
