So, I have to share this story. I am sure some of you will get a smile out of this.

So, I have been a lurker on this site since March of 2013. Could not afford a Pani of my own until March of 2015. It was my 48th Birthday present to myself.

Over the past 2 years, I have read complaints and reports of how bad the heat could be on the Pani.

I have one of those computer jobs that allow me to work from home 2 days a week, so I usually commute to work on the Pani Monday and Tuesday every week. This has been the case since I bought the bike in March. The only exceptions to that have been when I was away to Boston on business or when it rains.

Well, this practice changed this week.

I rode the Pani to work Monday morning like normal. Had an enjoyable back road romp around Jordan Lake in Chatham County, NC taking the long way in. It was about 8 am when I took this ride, so no problem.

Normally, I leave at 4pm to go home since the traffic gets crazy after 4:30. Well, this particular Monday, I got pulled into a conference call at 3:30 that lasted until 5pm (cloud design discussion/argument).

So, I hop on the Pani at 5:15pm for the ride home. The temp gauge is reading 101 F. Not the engine temp, the air temp. Eh, no prob, I have ridden in this kind of heat before on my previous Suzuki's and Honda's. The ride home was a tad uncomfortable with sweat building up on my glasses under my helmet and stinging the eyes a bit.

But the real problem is when I got within 2 miles of my neighborhood. I get caught in bumper to bumper because of a fender bender at a traffic light ahead. The engine temp is reading 212 and the air temp is 102. After about 10 min of stop and go, it feels like the inside of my thighs are about to spontaneously combust. Wholly .... it burns. Been stuck in traffic with the Pani before, but have never had that kind of heat experience before.

Lesson learned here? Well, 2: (1) I am so glad I wear boots and Kevlar slider pants when I ride. I could not imagine how much worse the heat would have been in just jeans or shorts and sneakers... (2) I don't plan on riding her to work when the forecast is for over 100 again. Wow that was painful.

Weekend rides are still on the agenda. But riding to work will be relegated to days when the temps will be 90 or below.

Anyways, hope I made some of you laugh today. I really love this bike. And compared to what I read about heat issues in the 2012 and early 2013 models, my 2014 really isn't that bad. But when it is over 100 out, it just isn't that much fun.

Cheers!

Hello..

I work in Cary and live in Apex..

Have just bought a Pani after a 8 year hiatus from "street riding". last Ducati was a 998 from 2003-2007

Just wanted to say hello

Cant share anything related to your post as I am yet to pick my new bike up (from Maryland). Hope to have it this Saturday, a Father's day present to myself..

Nice to know a fellow ducati owner in my area..

Have your headers ceramic coated inside and out, but keep your heat shields in place. It will help with the heat.

There is another Pani rider in the area as well. I see him once a week when I am riding home in the afternoon. Usually in Apex on 64 when I am heading from hwy 55 to Laura Duncan.

He is usually heading towards 55 while I am heading towards Laura Duncan.

We usually wave to one another, but I have yet to meet him. I hope he is a forum member. The three of us could hook up and ride one weekend.

that would be great....

Don't get stuck in traffic. Problem solved.

Any V engine sportbike with a metal tank is going to roast you in traffic. Perfectly normal.

One word. BACKROADS! I know they have them I grew up in Carolina. Stay away from traffic or your Chestnuts will be roasting on an open fire.

212 seems low, on an 80Deg day, mine easily get to 225 in traffic

Since I had my ECU race mapped I had to change the Dragon Lady's fan to a manual switch. I switch the fan on when she hits 90 C and off when she goes below 90. That solved the overheating problem. :D

I feel ya, Man. I ride to work every day on my 1299 and mostly it's fine, as long as the ambient temperature stays under about 85 degrees F. I rode home a couple of Mondays ago in 102 degree heat and I was right on the verge of being in pain it was so bad. It was the same as you.. even lane splitting, when there's stopped traffic, you can only go so fast.

My testicles felt like boiled eggs by the time I got home....

You've obviously never sat on a tank in summer in Iraq. ;)

I really don't notice it even in traffic on a 95 degree day. I ride my bike everywhere including downtown Philly. I saw someone on here posting that they wet themself with water before riding.

You are correct!

I did my 6 years of Military service in the US Navy. The only tanks I saw were fuel tanks for the GE LM2500 gas turbine engines my ship used for main propulsion... :D

Well, I did see some rusted out tank hulls while traversing the Suez Canal...

So your testicles must be more like FRIED eggs then? :D

lol Should have sat on the reactor it would have prepared you lol...

Shilling yes. never wanted a cold shower more in my life

Not a Panigale problem, quite a few other bikes do that too. It's cager time over a 100F. If I have to with the right clothing, I'll ride in 100F+ heat.

Oh I still ride in 100 degree heat. Just not during Rush Hour anymore... :)

Drove my 1LE Camaro yesterday instead. It is almost as fun as the Pani... But not quite...

I would also add that the Japanese bikes may or may not have the same issue but my 998 had the same issue. My right leg used to roast in traffic plus the heat radiating from the upper fairing vents was unbearable as well..

Heat? What heat? ATGATT is your friend.
