Well as a matter of fact they all like the 690 SMC cause KTM is famous in that class of bikes. It is indeed a super fun bike and in the supermotard class their a lot around down here.
Naked bikes are rare (1 Diavel which is a gorgeous bike..) and a few Kawa's. A 1290 Superduke they have never seen and as you say; they are stunned by the power and torque of this 2 cilinder. A while ago they invited me on the official island track for a ¼ mile against mostly Haya's with extended rear fork's. Those bikes are stunning fast.. but only when reach the top of their RPM's. By that time my Superduke is already on the end of the track (with me like an ..... on it trying to keep the frontwheel down..) By the end of the track they beat me going over 175 m/h. My riding position on this naked is far from ideal, the amount of wind gives a tremendous pressure. But on the short track the KTM is master.
But it's really a super-bike-island, fast, faster, fasted. Could not make up my mind between the Panigale 1299 or the KTM RC8, still don't know if I did the right thing although I never had the experience of driving a RC8.
But fair enough, Ducati has passion.. The Ferrari among the bikes. People fall in love with this brand, which is quite a achievement of a brand. The power delivery and riding experience is stunning. (and hard work to, I'am completely broken after a Sunday ride.. My bottom is fried, hair is on fire, kidneys relocated and my back and wrists broken..)
Last but not least; difference KTM vs Ducati as in quality?
Germans (or Austria which is close..) can build things perfectly. Every detail, bolt and plastic part is perfect and fits 100% Italians can build beautiful machines which make your hart beat faster.
Take apart a door of a German car to replace a window regulator; will take you 2 days. Take apart a door of a Ferrari and you'll break 24 clips, the door handle and you're left with 9 unknown remaining parts. Maybe Audi ownership will change things over the years, we'll see.
Fact is; I love the way you all are passioned about your Duc's!
