just a quick one, will a wiring harness from a 2013/14 1199 be compatible with a 2012? looking to install ABS got an offer of a full kit, pump, lines, BBS, and harness just want to double check it will be compatible before i buy. i am guessing a reflash will be needed to or just fault codes cleared?

Well that’s a new one. The trend for some time was how to remove the ABS system. From personal experience, mechanically all of the 99 components are interchangeable. Dash, BBS, ECU, ABS pump, main harness and sub assemblies. However as you state from an integrated system perspective, the Dash, BBS, ECU and the ABS pump need to match from a firmware and software perspective. How precisely that match needs to be I am not 100% sure but I will tell you that every time there was a deviation from the nomenclature, there was an “unknown device” error on the dash or some other fault indication. Even an updated part say a 1D dash to a 1E dash same year bike generated an error indication. Can the Ducati DDS induce compatibility across platforms, don’t know, that’s for them to answer.

Oh I guess to answer your direct question, does the harness you have include the ABS plug? If not then obviously, no.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking that myself I will give the boys and girls in ducati a call tomorrow and see what they say, like I said its a full harness ABS model complete with BBS and pump

I am guessing the boys and girls at Ducati told you that in order to add ABS to your 2012 that you would have to have the ABS harness, different BBS and different instrument display. The Tamburini harness's are the nicest out there but unfortunately they don't offer custom built harness's for the different variations of the V2.

So just an update on harness stuff after testing and gathering the resources to build custom harness's for these bikes this is what has been done. If your running a custom built, modified or Tamburini race harness whatever components live on the bike from factory has to continue to live there. So main issue is for guys trying to remove ABS pumps or in odd cases trying to add its not a option. The Tamburini harness includes a cable extension that has a round socket connector on one end and opposite end has a ABS plug. If you have a 1199 base no ABS the cable is not used. If you have a bike that has ABS the BBS boxes are programmed to look for the ABS module within the CAN system so the pump electronics at a minimum have to be plugged in for everything to operate correctly.

Yeah they told me it is possible with an ABS harness, ABS BBS and a reflash to get the ABS menu active, tbh I never went any further than this, never had ABS on any bike I have owned, so had a go on my friends Aprilia rsv4 factory and wasn't overly impressed with the feedback from the ABS under braking, so on the back of this I invested in a new Brembo 17RCS master cylinder instead, great bang for buck totally transformed the feel and confidence on the 1199 in the brakes department.
