Would you track your Pani if it wasn't insured on the track?

Last year I totaled an 848 at a track day (out of state to boot.) My insurance company ( Allstate) stepped up to the plate and covered it. I didn't try to hide anything and told them it was a track day. They asked some questions and if it was a timed event or a race. I told them it was not and there were instructors and classroom time, so they said it was covered. They wrote it up as "loss of control on private property" and they even covered the first 1000.00 of my gear. They seemed to genuinely care and repeatedly called and followed up with me to make sure everything was ok and I got the check. They even reimbursed my gas expense to trailer the bike back home. With my "accident forgiveness" the claim didn't even count against me. It was such a great relieve to have them help out and make it so easy while I was focusing on my recovery.

I've personally been burned by my province's crown insurance corporation. in 2007 I wanted to start doing track. Several locals in the industry said that I would be covered for track days. I was skeptical so I called up the insurance company to make sure, and I was told over the phone that I was indeed covered because it was not a race or timed event. Well after several track days, the inevitable happened, I wadded the .... out of my new Gixxer 750. Made the claim. After explaining to the adjuster that it wasn't a timed event, they said they were going to cover it. Then a day later I get called again, a manager veto'd to the decision. Eventually I tried to fight them legally on it, and it reached a point where the lawyer said it's not worth proceeding because it'll end up costing the same in legal feels IF we won the case, better to just cut losses and call it a day.

There are a couple private insurers that now cover track days, but weren't available to me at the time. I would definitely do it again with a private insurer, and make sure I have it writing that they would cover me.

nervous

My first track day on my pani S is on Thursday....I've only done one track day before on my s1000rr. For this reason I've went to the slow group again at the sydney track eastern creek...

The thought of dropping my $40k does not appeal to me, the urge to track this machine just once is over whelming and its a risk Im willing to take....the only insurance I have is hope!!!

Wish me luck...

This makes me feel good"¦I have my bike covered by Allstate.

If your insurance covers track, or you're comfortable knowing that you might have to toss the bike into the garbage bin, then by all means track the fugger. If not, spend a few grand on a track dedicated machine.

I have seen enough people take their street rides to the track, telling themselves, "I'll just take it easy", and leave with tears in their eyes. Simply put, you don't know when you're going to crash and it's not always because you're riding above your head. I've seen people go down on warm up laps, or because of oil, or from being collected. Your control over the situation is limited, and it always will be.

You can go a thousand track days and never go down - or, you can bin it on your very first lap. Knowing that, if you don't have insurance for track, ask yourself: I am willing to throw this all away for a track day? If so, bravo to you.

Yup...and I also know a guy that was torpedo'd from behind, didn't even see it coming.

I'd like to try one track day on mine but I'm sure I will enjoy it enough to want to do it more often. I couldn't see tracking my Pani regularly so I would have to get a track dedicated bike. Something more reasonable to repair.

Best of luck to you! Let us know how it goes as I'm sure you will! Probably have a grin to last you through the rest of Spring!

I have a very large desire for a Code class if I'm ever in a location that has one.

I just finished level one and two of CSS and i recommend it for sure. It was fun and u learn quite a bit. Cant wait to do it again. It makes u really appreciate the Pani when u come back home :)
