A few guys asked me what the little square box was by my battery. This is a solid state MOSFET starter relay. It replaces the stock contact relay. This thing plus the high torque SBK starter is a must have. I use the speedcell battery. Things spins up like an R6.

First the battery is absolutely amazing. It is super light and the quick connector is excellent. I can pull this battery in 10 seconds, I can instantly plug an alternator power source.

The starter has a lot more torque than the stock unit and was built for high compression applications so yes it spins the motor with less effort.

The relay is half the size of the stock relay, environmentally sealed, can be mounted on any surface and is plug and play.

Endodoc, I can only say that the quality of your builds is amazing, on every level of the bike you look for the finest components.
Years and years experience flows into yours projects.

Thanks man, much appreciated. Now if I could just put some of that time and effort into learning how to ride, I might have something

Nice piece there Endodoc. I had to jump off the forum to see if google was broken. Nope still works and have unit on order.
have been a fan of speedcell since inception. In fact have one of their original 6 cells in my Zuma scooter. Used to kill a stock battery every year have had the SpeedCell in there since late 2011 or so I think Josh and the crew over there are top notch. But don’t ever try to charge one up after it’s dipped below 10 volts.

hey doc im interested in the SSR is it something that is sold or a piece that you adapted to work for you, very nice , A SSR is much more efficient at passing current than a mechanical relay , but the starter really has my interest peaked, the battery i purchased definitely turns the factory starter faster but the starter still sounds so anemic. im having trouble locating SBK starter.

Not sure if this is a 22 thing but my V4 cranks w vigor. I remember my friends’ older 916-999 starters being anemic but does the modern stuff (1098-Superquadro V2) have issues?

mines a 19 V4, with the factory battery even just off the charger. it cranked weakly at best , you guys know what this sounds like
bump---bump...bump---bump... bump---bump... fires
after the new Li om battery with a higher CA capacity it went to
bumpbump.bumpbump.bumpbump.fires.
if that makes sense. if i had to put a percentage to it, id say its about 15% faster than with the original battery.

I gotchu. Agreed it does crank for a few more turns than I expected for a modern bike. It doesn’t fire on the first turnover like a Honda. If/when my battery dies, I’ll be looking into these Speedcells or maybe a Braille. The connector of the Speedcell seems an extra step to adapt to the stock 2 terminal wires.

On the SSR, BSD used to have them but Covid dried the supply up. I bought a pile of them. The starters is a Corse item and available through a Corse dealer. On the batteries, the Speedcell will require you to fashion some battery cables. Not rocket science. Yea the cranking sequence on the 99s is nothing to write home about. This helped a bunch.

hey doc
do you have a part number for that starter
and what are the specs/ratings for that SSR, i can probably just maybe find a SSR with the right specs.

Oh ok..I saw that one and I thought that was it but wasnt sure .. and holy crappers 750.00 for a starter . Thanx for the specs boss I appreciate it .

27040193a is listed in the parts as 2109 v4 starter, and is also 748.21 thats insanity. i will probably buy a spare on ebay as well as the rest of the starting components, gear, sprag and starter ring, just to preppare for the day it does out, because it will.

27040201b is superseded by
27040201c which us superseded by
27040201d

the 27040201c is the only one that mentions as its description that it is a .75kw starter as opposed to .6kw starter.
For the D which superseded the C i cant find any mention of .75 kw rating maybe its just became the standard rating.

what year is your v4 doc.. the part numbers are different, i wonder if the starters are the same

I don’t have a V4. 1299s. 27040201C is a 75kw starter. It’s catalog listing is for the The starters are all the same except for the 60 v 75kw. The main reason for running the 75kw was to increase cranking ability with a higher CR and that it allowed you to remove the decompression rollers. It’s catalog listing is for the F17/F18 1199RS engine. If you could source it from Mitsuba is probably $150.00

Is the aim of removing the decompressor rollers to save weight? Or do they create drag/power reduction?

I’m “guessing” they are an unnecessary component much like the anti backlash gear that gets removed from the clutch ring gear assembly. The Corse workshop manual lists the procedure but doesn’t go into detail as to why.

The decompression assembly is a centrifugal mechanism on the exhaust cams that limits full compression until the revs rise past tick-over. Weird that they do list a Corse part number for that assembly to replace the stock assembly (my RS heads didn’t have them installed).

The V4 Corse motors (factory) are also running billet cam chain runners as opposed to the stock plastic units. I was surprised by the effects of the flex of the plastic runners in timing integrity and synchronization at high RPM

Has anyone had any success in finding a place that sells the SSR. When looking for the bitronix B9273 SSR it seems that the company producing them no longer exists. Does anyone know of a similar SSR that would work?
