Yamaha 2014

Kawasaki seem to be the only Japanese motorcycle company that acts like they actually enjoy being in the motorcycle business these days.

2014 Yamaha YZF-R1 Race Blu Debuts at Silverstone

Looks like they are going another year without any meaningful updates. How can a company that has such an amazing GP machine sell such lackluster motorcycles?

Because they're still selling, just like the R6. I imagine the triple is taking a lot of R&D and testing, it's not going to come out properly designed over night. What do you think those Japanese engineers are, Italian?

Yep still like my R6 [2006]. Seeing as I can't get anywhere near what i want on resale gonna keep it as my second bike.

I deeply loved my R1. Sad day when I sold it, only got over it with a 998S .. which lets face it the original R1 (I had 2000) was a kind of clone of the 916/996.

I would certainly consider another R1 .. after I get a 999R.

I think 2006 style is the best looking one. Had the Raven R1, then got the 50th Anniversary Limited Edition one. Now, not really liking the newer ones.

I traded in my 2012 R1 for the Tricolore. It doesn't surprise me it stayed the same for 2014. It is selling well and is a very good bike. The sound is intoxicating and while it may have less hp than it brethren, it has by far the most usable spread of power and torque I have ever experienced on a Jap inline 4.

And yet every comparison test I have read the past couple of years says that the CBR1000 has more mid-range punch. I have not ridden either btw, but that is what the tests say.

Only thing I like about the current style R1's is the crossplane feature of the bike. The sound with aftermarket exhausts on it is simply intoxicating. My gawd is that an addicting sound. That said, there isn't any other positive thing about it that I can think of. I've never ridden one but it is a bulky bike and it isn't very stylish either. My transition from my 2010 Daytona 675 to the Pani was very easy in terms of size. My 675 was damn near anorexic. Such a slim bike compared to my previous ZX6R's (2004 & 2006). The Pani is slightly wider but not by much. The R1 almost feels as wide as a Busa, at least near the front end of the bike. Every time I watch the AMA Superbike races and you hear the riders rev their motors, it is ALWAYS the case that you hear one distinguished sound that drowns out the rest. Maybe because he is alwaysssssss at the front of the line and closest to the cameras but still, all you hear is that crossplane R1. SEX!

Suzuki is also doing nothing for 2014 as evidenced by the GSX-R1000 SE, which has a polished frame and bad paint job as its big changes! Makes me even happier with the Pani when the others stand pat.

i love that r1. if it wasnt for the 1199 thats the bike i would have. nicest looking bike out not counting the 1199 of course. i loved the 2011 with the cranberry red and black with the skulls and i like the red and black one. blue is my favorite color so i am loving this one too. makes me wonder should i save 10k and get the 2014 r1 instead of the hp4

You could do a full system, suspension work, wheels, and brakes with the savings...

You'd definitely end up with a better looking bike if you did:D

But, it'd be softer, slower, heavier, and out of date immediately.

I have a 2009 R1, heavily modified for track use, and it s a BEAST. Thought about trading for a Pani or RSV4 Factory, but I can't seem to part with it..

Part of the reason is my size, I'm 6'3" with a 35" inseam, the R1 is roomy compared to the Italians. My 2008 1098 was roomy as well, with Acculign rearsets. Darn I miss that bike! Traded it for my 2012 Daytona 675R. I miss Italian bikes, crazy as they are... :-(

I loved my R1 (09) and wouldn't mind getting another one to have in addition to my Pani...Aside from the weight and minimal heat (comparatively haha) there wasn't anything I didn't like about it. Felt super planted and still relatively easy to ride even weighing as much as it did.
