you ride a MULTI too?!

Don't overlook the older Multis as well. I've had both a 1200 and 1000DS and the older one was a total blast, easier to lane split on in the city, def did not have the top end rush of the 1200 but it was no slouch either and handled like it was on rails, such a fun bike.

love, love, love the 1100S....agreed, good road riding motorcycles.

I have a '13 PP and the Pani. I really like the MTS, but love riding the Pani. The Pani is still my favorite bike to ride and the one I wish I was on when I ride the MTS. But, the MTS is really fun, comfortable and versatile (enough for me.) There is no comparison between the two they are totally different in every way. I don't agree with the analogy of the MTS to an RV, sorry. You can rip twisties and track it no problem. It just doesn't have the same throttle response and you sit much higher and upright. I use it to commute, take trips, etc... It's a great compliment to the Pani. I test rode the new 1200GS, but that's a bike meant for more off-road riding than on-road riding and I'm not doing that. It's also a behemoth.

I had the MTS1200S, Diavel Carbon Red and the Pani S all at the same time. Loved ALL of them. I rode more on the Pani S because she was newer but when I felt guilty for not riding one of the others and rode them... they were pure joy. Loved the Diavel! Made me feel like batman, every time I rode her. So much power and the sound with the Termis can't be compared with anything else. It will leave any of your riding buddy deaf if they are following you on the right hand side.

The MTS... tries to please you in every aspect and succeeds most of the time. Handles great, rides great, the only down side is top speed/power. I was almost always riding at max throttle, I wish she had 30hp more. Having said that, we are talking about two completely different motorcycles (MTS and Pani). I don't know why anybody would compare the two. The OP specifically asked about the MTS as a second or third bike. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I think it's a great idea.

If it is for commuting may I suggest the Streetfighter like zvez suggested. The SF848 has just the right amount of power/agility to be a great commuter bike. I loved the Diavel for commuting but can feel a bit ruckus/obnoxious in slow traffic. Another suggestion is the MV Brutale. Awesome bike.

Also, keep in mind that the MTS is somewhat "wide" so it might be overwhelming when lane splitting if that's allowed in NY(?) or if you do it anyways. Note on MTS riding in slow traffic... the MTS can feel and maneuver much smaller than it is if you ride close to the tank with your body upright looking down the traffic.

Good luck picking out your commuter.:)

thanks for your takes -- i wanted to get panigale owners' takes on the big bike because i normally love the sportbike tuck. i have clip-ons on my monster, loved the s1000 (though the 1199 is much more comfy and tosses around lighter), but i've never liked the hyper or the SF seating position much. the multi seems different though -- higher and so quick -- which somehow makes it work for me.

plus, the pike's peak livery looks sick!

Ordered a Pikes Peak after testing a touring S (without paniers fitted). Just loved the Multi. I have a Pani R with the race system fitted which makes it just OTT for certain roads plus a nightmare in stop-go traffic. The R is superb at what it's designed for - looking good and going fast solo on good tarmac, but the multi just makes perfect sense on every other occasion. The ideal Ducati combo IMO - a pani and a multi.

@bronch -- thanks! that's exactly what i wanted to hear!

then @ddd269 throws in the other two bikes to muddy the waters or make me go broke :D

i've ridden the multi and loved it! need it mainly as a commuter for my 20-miles trip into the hell that is NYC, and would keep the pani for riding north, bear mountain, track days, etc. decision would be easy, were it not for the SF and the Brutale. but no ABS on the SF? will the trellis go away in the next gen? will they make an 1199 SF? plus, the MTS would be perfect for long, LONG rides, albeit more boring on the slab than the 1199...

how many bikes will end up in my garage?? need to build another garage.

Love the paint scheme of the new Pikes Peak. Inspired by desmosedici? :D

Goes well with the PP's lines.

If you live in cold climate have them install the grip warmer. I loved mine. My "S" model didn't come with it from factory but any MTS1200 can be integrated to work with the start button and shows the heat level on the round display.

You answered your own question... as many as it will fit!

I quit collecting bikes when my wife told me calmly one day... Calmest voice I've ever heard from her. "Can we start investing on things that don't have any wheels?". I said "can I start buying boats?". She hit me... HARD. :p

I've had a brutale too (910S). It's a great bike but a bit cramped for tall riders which limits it's use although I commuted on it.

For commuting, the SF with a tank or tail bag is tough to beat (I also used it a lot for 1000-1500 mile weekends and it's got around 22k miles). (although hyper and monsters are popular for this too) . It's a great all round bike and replaced the tuono I had which served in the same capacity. The fueling on mine (it's s 1098) is pretty bad from 3k-4500k (some are worse than others, I'm finally getting around to an ecu reflash).

I do have to say with the type of riding I do, if I could only have one bike it'd be the multi, hands down, as I like long trips. Of the three I presently have, the multi is top and the sf second, pani comes in a third, as the only thing I find it really fun is blasting around twisty mountain roads and track days.

Just my personal pref.

awesome wrap, thanks @zvez -- i feel like i'm on the handlebars of the SF when i sit on it, so i don't think i'll end up down that road.

one thing i'm really curious about is what happens to the TRELLIS frames of the monster, SF, MTS, etc.? will they ditch them entirely? obviously they'll be phased out over time if they do. so which bike loses it first? will we get an SF1199 or MTS1199?

one more hour and 11 minutes until i can hit the fcuking ROAD!!! please dear god, clear the traffic on the hutch... :D

Good luck before the Cross County turn off! That's always packed on a Fri.

ha, yeah I think we'd all like to know what future designs will be The trellis is so integral to ducati, I'd like to think they'd keep it in some form on some of their bikes, but who can really know for sure. I mean the dry clutch is going away.

I'm thinking that bikes like the MTS will go on with trellis because of the tougher use design/nature of the bike.

The next 848(or replacement) will be of the Panigale derivative so it will carry the monocoque chassis, but the Diavel, MTS, Monster, Hyperstrada (new), Hypermotard (new) will probably keep the trellis for a looong time.

Not so sure about the Streetfighter...

Both are sick... In their own way. :D

Apologies for answering in the wrong forum; but since everyone else has....

I fell on love with the Multi 1200S as soon as I rode it. Such a versatile machine.

I bought one immediately and had the full Termi with the upgraded ECU installed...let me tell you; this bike is no RV. It is a different handling bike proprioceptively; but once you get to understand it's nuances, dare I say it would give most liter bike fits on the track

It's a very confidence inspiring ride. It has incredible pull, balance, turning geometry andresponse to rider input. I can ride it two up and not not be able to tell I have someone behind me. It pulls wheelies in 2nd and 3rd effortlessly.

It slays city traffic commutes and the rider position is very conducive to city lane splitting and does not hesitate under any circumstance

It's the classic "Swiss army knife of bikes". I cannot say enough about it. I would have it as my only bike if I could only have one.

I am fortunate to own three Duc's and I love each one for it's uniqueness.

How couldn't I ??

....! i saw a pikes peek at a dealer today and i just WANT IT SO BAD!!!

but had a blast riding my 1199 home...
