I'm short of deciding on a new panigale.

Currently I work and live in Mexico but I would keep the bike at my return to Germany in a few years.

The rational decision would be a 959 in US-spec here in Mexico, upgraded with the full Akra-system.

Good for some fun on the road and the occasional track day.

It should conform to EURO 4 specs after fitting the EU-shotgun exhaust tailpipes and change of the lower fairing.
And there are few occasions away from track use where the difference in peak power and torque would really matter.

However, the 1299 S seems to be the peak of the twin cylinder evolution and even so just EURO 3 spec still able to be registered in Germany with the official exception granted for low volume production cycles just for 2017. Maybe the last chance to enjoy legally a large Duc twin exhaust sound thanks to the valve system.

The sad part is, that most race tracks in Germany and Austria have strict noise which block the 1299 S from being ridden on track.
What a strange situation, road legal but to loud for track use.
But it won't become any better in future.

But, as I looked through the offers on the sales platforms I came across a 1199 R with just 1,300 km supposedly from a collector.

The R-versions are of course always very special but I would like to understand whether this 1199R maybe to extreme to ride and I would be better of with the 1299 S.

If I am clear on that decision 1199R/1299S I just need to get clear on how rationonal I am with respect to 959 vs. the big panigale.

With respect to experience level I would consider myself advanced hobby level with some track experience lately on the Daytona and with the BMW Race Academy (Troy Corser as chief instructor was great) were I learned to appreciate the electronic suspension package on the S1000RR.
I am neither a track-only racer nor a cafe-racer poser, I just like to ride fast this side off the knockin'-on-heaven's-door modus.

It would help, if someone with experience and not just opinion could offer support in this decision process.

Thanks in advance, Peter

1299S....As far as noise there is a company working on an exhaust to meet the demands of the tracks in Europe. There are post on here about said company. I just can't remember the name. 1199R would be a great track bike. But I think you will enjoy the torque benefit of the 1299S on the street. It just make for a better street bike.

Good luck

Blade.

I also live in Germany with a 1299s, black flagged on Zandvort last week, but I'm sure it's the quickshifter popping causing the excessive noise..
would be interested to hear about this special exhaust for Europe

you are talking about the Storm Performance Fabrications or SPF, you can find the page on facebook.
I was looking at the system myself due to noise restrictions on many Eu tracks nowadays.. sadly
