Bst carbon tek wheels

Hi all. Has anyone installed the carbon fiber wheels from bst carbon tek on a panigale v4s? I really love the look, but is it really worth it (i dont intend to drive on track and i am a bit scared of cf wheels on bumpy roads) I have found a good deal, but still not sure if i should go for it. They re the same as on the v4 sp right? What about durability reliability of this particular brand? For info my v4s is nearly full carbon accessories from rizoma. I went to ducati one day to swap to the v4sp2 cf wheels but the price from the retails was sky high. Now looks like ilmberger carbon has became a reseller for bst. On thing that caught my attention was that bst carbon tek was saying it is ok to ride with a passenger with their wheels. But ducati has never homologated an sp bike for a passenger... on the other hand bmw with their M bikes and carbon package are homologated for passenger, but i believe they get their cf wheels from thyssenkrup
 

One of those failure stories it turned out that the guy had bought them used with no idea about prior history. The thread linked to was six years old, stated they were Superleggera wheels (incorrect) and also said the rear was glowing and on fire, so it was probably a badly adjusted rear brake - massive heat on a carbon wheel’s not going to end well.

BST make the Ducati wheels but the ones that BST sell are not exactly the same (near enough though and quite a bit cheaper).

BMW have had wheel failures as well but I believe it’s quite rare and some time ago.

Personally, if I wanted to buy carbon wheels I’d have no safety concerns about using the ones from BST.
 
Yes but i saw the cf wheel failures already on the bmw s1000rr (ok the guy was wheeling the bike) and some other videos with their cf failing during a road trip. And the last one is that moto gp doesnt allow it🤔
 
My concern would be if your not doing track days because this is where they will really benefit is the durability if you hit a pothole.

Racing generally doesn’t allow it. You’re not going racing, right?

If you look around you’ll see failures on various materials. With those videos and stories you’ve no idea what information isn’t given, possible contributory factors, etc.

I’d have no concerns and I’ve used them on road. Up to you.

Actually it can flex. They are designed by people who know what they are doing.

If they fail then it’s more spectacular…
 
Well... i also had a car tuned by a supposedly specialist in this car brand, and not a cheap knock off ecu remap. Before that i checked that was fine on different forums and asked also the tuner and so on (but then this tuner was supposed to be reknown) and guess what? I pull it for the 1st time on highway and the engine just blew.

That sort of thing can be down to a tune but also whether the engine components can take it. You never know what underlying issues there are that can show up when the engine’s asked to do a bit more than stock.

I had a tuned E92 M3 that had the engine blow, but it was a known issue and nothing really do do with the tune.
 
Yes I do. They are on my SP2.

Have you ever used carbon wheels or are you still saving up?

I have a lot of carbon wheels. Just not for motorcycles. And having a basic understanding of material science, I’d opt for a material other than carbon for this application.

You realise that you’ve made no meaningful contribution to this thread? You’ve commented solely to try and make a personal attack. It’s funny, but a bit sad as well. :rolleyes:
 
CF wheels break instead of crack, but the amount of force that it takes to break them is FAR higher than the force it takes to bend and aluminum wheel. So it’s kind of moot. I’ve gone off track and ran over boulders, literally boulders in my other CF wheels and not a mark or hairline crack.
