I did some searching on here and the other forums since I've pretty much decided on the 1199S but read about how insanely hot it is. I will not have the opportunity to ride one before buying so Id like to know how it compares to the 1198. When my bike was stock it was absolutely unrideable in 80* weather on nothing but 70mph twisty roads until I removed the butterfly valve and did slip ons then it was just uncomfortable and soaked my pants and underwear with sweat and stood up partially every 3minutues to let the air flow under my ass. The only thing I've ever rode that was hotter tham my 1198 stock to stock was a 12 675r which was even worse.

A new exhaust wont be in the cards If I go with the 1199 so it will just get the butterfly valve removed and possibly some heat reflecting tape slapped on the underside of the rear tail.

Is the 1199 at speeds above 40mph as hot or hotter than the 1198 under your ass? I don't care about ankles or calves, just don't want to ride in a puddle of my own sweat.

I sat on my bike for two hours in 90 degree heat in Laconia traffic and although it was extremely hot I could bare it..

I have been riding a 1098S and a 1199R for some time. I felt that my ass got hotter on the 1098. I did not add any reflective tape etc. to either bike. ;)

Had both the 1098S and 1198S. I definitely find the 1199 the hottest but because I do not ride in the city the heat is not an issue.

If you have any kinda of airflow it's fine (40+mph like u said). just don't get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic

I found the 1199 to be slightly hotter than the 1098. Both bikes have Ceramic coated exhausts (polished), the 1199 has the rear full Termi CF shield and with leathers I no longer experience heat issues on any bike.

The '12 was annoying under the right leg, but after I got the heat shield upgrades, no problem at all.

I haven't ridden a 1098. Only thing I can compare with is my older 748 (which was plenty hot).

I'm not bothered by heat. At least not the heat that just makes sweat puddles in your leathers. Some people have complained about the heat. Some (including me) have said "Heat? What heat". A lot of it is just dependent on what you tolerate/what bothers you.

My only complaint regarding the (so-called (if you're heat tolerant)) "heat" is sometimes the subframe under the seat right where your thigh is can get truly (painfully) hot. Enough that it raised a couple of blisters on my inner thigh once right where it contacts the subframe - and I was wearing leather.
Heat, I can tolerate. Blisters...not so much. So this winter I'm figuring out how to mitigate the heat being radiated from the metal heat shield into the subframe. As I said, I don't mind the convection heat so much. But it appears the radiant heat is the culprit. I'm experimenting with putting reflective tape on the inside/manifold side of the heatshield. It will still get hot - but I'm looking to just alter the shield heat coefficient just enough to lower the radiant heat into the subframe.

**Disclaimer** I have the older '12 -style heat shield . The subrame may be a non-issue with the newer style. Dealer asked me if I wanted to go to the newer shield but I said no as the heat (the convection heat, at least) is a non-issue. Just doesn't bother me to sweat in leathers so much.

$0.02, YMMV, etc.

I have both bikes and both run hot infact all my ducati's have been the same so it does not bother me.

For what it's worth I always ride in leathers

I think they're about the same.

Funny thing though, I was riding during the Arizona summer and the heat didn't bother me. Now that it's in the 80s, I notice the heat I didn't notice when it was 115 degrees. Don't bother me but I'm like, "where's that heat coming from."
