I trashed that whole air box crap and made my own. Regardless, what does the vertical cylinder vent hose look like inside? There should be tell tail signs of oil blowoff in the rear area of the air box if your theory is correct which it may be. Just do a quick compression on the V. Easy to get to, 5 min job

When I had the breather issue it was a simple job to reattach it in the airbox. Huge amount of oil gets recirculated so any issues with the connections etc will look a lot worse than what it is.

ya this is not oil coming from bottom crank case, the 1 way check valve prevents that, and i confirmed when i removed it again there was no oil there...but the little nipple next to that line, that is actual vent line was full of oil... and its a LOT of oil too...fML

Endodoc, i dont have equipment needed to test my compression myself.

Interesting, I have never had any oil other than fumes in the air box. My air box drain hole is capped off. Engine is 7 years old. Compression is ..... Another motor I have, has 3100 miles on it. Compression in the H cylinder is junk. I firmly believe there are “good” and “not so good” motors just from Mfg variances. If you need a compression gauge, PM me and I’ll send you one. Pull the plug, screw the gauge in pull the coil connectors, crank the motor, compare the value to the spec. Super easy.

sent ya a message Doc!

this motor has been strong for 29K miles....this just happened. Replaced the breather tube with check valve, cleaned up and test road...had same issue again....

Update 3/21/2022

So installed check valve and still getting airbox full of oil.
Took to dealer ship, confirmed Vertical piston rings are damaged, fails compression test horribly almost no compression.
Horizontal piston also failing, but not as bad as vertical.

Doing desmo service, ring replacements, timing chain replacement.

Yay 5500$

This is not good news. I race a 15R, i had the highside of my life last summer. We did a rebuild on this bike over the winter. We still have oil coming down onto the bike. Not enough laps to let it get to the rear tire again.
I retired the bike after last Fridays practice.
We thought we only had a over filled oil level on the bike which caused last years highside.
I can recall back last year seeing/smelling something rising from the brake side near the radiator early on the 2020 season but would dissapate after a minute in the pits, thought it was radiator, checked levels and leaks, none found.
Bike runs the nuts so i am hoping it is only the recall needed.
The engine only has 3400 miles on it.

First week of May 2022 we noticed the oil issue again on the bike. We popped tank off, cleaned it up thinking it may have been there from last crash.
Spun two laps pitted in for inspection, looked good, went back out for two more laps. Found oil, pitted in garage.
Pulled injector system off, cleaned up the tubing system - placed back on. Bike had other issues did not get to test on track.

Returned last weekend, first round of practice, no issues.
Second round - billowing smoke off exhaust - pulled tank for inspection, airbox full of oil.
Parts were ordered early may should be good to go.

yep..i feel you dude. my bike still in shop, hoping to get back mid june now...been there since first week of FEB...FML

Parts going on bike next week, fingers crossed we have a ready set race for her now.
Next race is not until the 18th of June.

What does this kit do? Why is there a “kit” to prevent something that shouldn’t be happening in the first place? Something isn’t right with the assembly. Why is the crankcase vent pressure so high that you are getting oil in the box? How do the intake ports look? Single comp ring, is that sealed correctly? How about valve seats/seals, good? This is all coming from the primary case vent and or the H cylinder vent?

UPDATE: breather check valve did not solve my issue. still getting a lot of oil in airbox, since its not coming from crank case at the bottom, has to be from the vent tube from the vertical piston...i'm thinking rings??

FML...bike goes to shop on Feb 8th for full desmo and oil in airbox troubleshooting.

Hi there,
Have the same problem like you previously, mine was a 1199 base, did the breather kit and also found out the my mech fill the engine oil to almost full level.
After filling the EO to 3/4, never had the problem again.

Doesn't the vertical cylinder have the pressure releasing cam lobe for making starting easier? I'm asking since I would imagine that makes measuring compression impossible using the starter motor?
