1199 chain clearance issue--should I change to 520?

Hello all, did the requisite search, but I think my situation is unique.

I recently installed some VooDoo rear sets on my 2012 1199S. Needed more legroom. I love the new rearsets, but now with the VooDoo set in place, the shift rod bolt that attaches to the left side foot lever is dangerously close to my chain. (See pics.)

The chain currently has no side-to-side slop, and I've ridden a couple tankfuls with this setup. No issues thus far.

BUT---I'd like to have a little more clearance between that bolt and the chain---SO---couldn't I install a 520 chain and gain a little extra clearance? I did the calculations, and a 520 chain is 1.24mm narrower than a 525. So, divided by 2, I'd get .6mm more clearance between that bolt and the chain. Seems rather minimal but it might be what the doctor (no, not Rossi!) ordered.

Plus, I like the idea of a lighter drivetrain. (and pretty, shiny gold to boot!) I'll welcome recommendations for my bike, sprockets (maybe taller gearing while I'm in there?), chain, rear cush drive as well. I've found a few threads on here already with great content on this subject so I'll peruse those as well.

I had a 520 pitch chain on a 2009 R1 I once owned---loved it!

Chain moves up and down not side to side plus it has guides should be no issue

Endo- I did indeed consider changing that bolt out to a lower profile one/. I’ll try that.

Anybody reading this switch over to a 520, maybe a couple teeth up in the back? If so, are you liking it?

And— if gearing is changed, is the 1199 speedometer affected? My 2015 R1 takes the speed reading off the front tire so gearing changes don’t affect readout. How about the Panigales?

A lot of guys went to the 520. I went to a 41 in the rear. I never rode the bike with the 39 so I’m no help on the comparison. Speed is off the front sensor ring. (I think) LOL

your good on speedo Greg. sensor is in the wheel. if you change tire type/size your speedo will change. gearing has no impact, neither does chain size.

The 1199S is new to me— I owned 2 1098s previously. This is an entirely new beast obviously. Trying to make it fit me like my other bikes but it might not be possible. The 1199 is extremely “wristy” and painful to ride. I’m going to raise the front to the very top of the forks. Would be nice to lower the rear a little but the link is fully closed in the shortest length. I guess I could shorten the shock but what a pain to do that! I understand there are aftermarket lowering links to bring the rear down a bit; anyone try those? Thing is, I’m 6’3” so I don’t want to bring it down too much.

Also hoping to mitigate the insane heat. I bought the throttle spacers (?) heat shield kit and will be installing it soon. My 1098s had full race exhausts and I never had a heat issue on those. Apparently it’s the 1199 frame that is roasting us. Ugh—-!
