Twice now I have had said to me that my R is so much quicker; especially out of the turns on the gas - first time was a fast canyon/forest ride with a mate and his S but didn't think much of it - last week while at Phillip Island GP track I had a Ducati factory rider running a S model as a test bike and he came up to after a session and said he couldn't believe how much quicker I took off out of Siberia and he was trying (mind you he over too me on Lukey Heights like I was standing still!)
I didn't think that the S & R were that much different?? are they?

PS Love my R :)

This is not a brag btw just interested - never bothered to look at the 2 to be honest just bought the R so I didnbt have to spend any more $$ .....except it chews through tires like nobody biz!!!!

Hi,
There is quite a few base and S owners on italian forums who have fitted the R models lighter flywheel and state there bikes now accelerate ALOT quicker and front wheel comes up easier. Also fitting 41 rear sprocket makes big difference apparently.

So,
With the R's even lighter Ti Rods I suspect it's even quicker again.

In UK. "S" = £20,250ish V £26,500ish for the "R" Model.
So, for say £6-6.500 you get Ti rods,( £????) lighter flywheel( £200ish + fitting charges from ducati) and Complete Termi system( £2300ish)

I've been considering the R flywheel upgrade to my S but I'm concerned about the labor involved and how much of a difference it really makes.

I've never run my S all the way through a gear and thought "Boy, that took ages." The typical response is more like "Man, those red lights started coming on quickly."

Any S owners that have done this?

I would imagine that the rotating assembly would have to be balanced as the R uses the lighter TI rods also.

Didn't someone here in the USA do the R flywheel conversion? I don't remember the results or costs but I would like to know, just for kicks (or maybe to start saving pennies).

I have talked to Seb and Adam about this. They said the can fit the R fly wheel or machine the oem fly wheel. I'm thinking of getting it down after the June 8th track day.

That's it? No pricing? Spill the beans!

Man, I don't ask for prices. I just pay it. a couple of hours is what Adam told me if I'm not mistaken. I hit him up tomorrow and ask.

Apparently there is a kit that you have to buy for the conversion which includes the flywheel, a new generator casing, some other bits and pieces, not sure about the price but what sort of performance gain would you get on a base? Would it be rideable on the streets after that, lighter fly wheels tend to rev quicker - does it mean it will stall a lot and would hate to cruise at constant speeds?

I had the r flywheel installed a couple of weeks ago, didn't notice anything out of the ordinary when taking off didn't have to slip clutch anymore than usual, but the engine does spin up quicker, wasn't that impressed with it until I took about 60 mile ride with some friends nice twisty roads with some good long straights,we came up on a car turning and slowed down to second gear no other vehicles ahead of us,hammered the throttle wow 2/3/4 gear power wheelie it's at this point I felt well worth modification....I will say one thing I don't like about the lightened flywheel engine feels bad at idle by this I mean makes some noises that I don't like almost like the crankshaft wants to spin backwards I know it sounds weird but that's the best way I can describe it(thank goodness for warranty)

Thanks for your impressions. May I ask what it all cost you (parts and install labor)?

I was going to do this...But the at idle sound does not sound promising at all...

So is this because of some mis-match between the lightened flywheel and some other engine component?
