Do you not have to calibrate against something though? What does it actually do?
It’s in the manual, but it’s something you do with slicks when you track your bike. It has to be ridden in the calibration mode at certain speeds. I believe it’s for the computer traction control and other safety interventions. Not needed for street riding

"This function allows the user to run the procedure for calibrating and teaching in the tire rolling circumference and final drive ratio."

It has nothing to do with slicks or the track, it simply calibrates your electronics to differing tire diameters and gearing. I would run a calibration on it to eliminate the possibility that yours is way off, its free and takes 5 seconds.

I get that, but it makes no sense. You have to ride at a set speed for a bit..but the displayed speed is calculated on parameters dependent on the rolling circumference. So I still don’t understand what it is calibrating...when you calibrate something you have to calibrate against a known quantity. Or should I put my physics degree away and just ride the damn thing :D

Ah that’s it...I was going off of memory as I wasn’t home to read the manual word for word, it was explained to me as a procedure when the guys at the track switched to slicks from their street tires.
So yes, as a way to calibrate for the tire circumference

Ah! Found this. Makes sense now. They calibrate the 2 wheels against each other and the gear box.

" Tire calibration basically calibrates the wheel speed sensors front and back. When you do the calibration the bike looks at the signal inputs when the bike is at a fixed speed and corrects the angular speed difference between the two sensors so that the TC doesn’t think the wheels are slipping when they aren’t (or vice versa). It shouldn’t matter what size tires are on it, it should be able to calibrate for them all."

If you watch 44teeth review of the bike - he changes to wet tires during the review as it rains - Ducati tell him to run at a set speed to calibrate it - for traction control ABS etc.... different tires would have differing dynamics, grip etc... @11.44
