1200 DVT Weird Starting Issues

It's started to behave quite oddly, the ignition will turn on but the starter doesnt work or you cant turn the ignition off with with the fob or the emergency button. I have to disconnect the battery to torun it off, leave it overnight and it usually will work normally once before acting strange again. On several occasions it worked flawlessly for a day then back to abnormal. Ive done a search but apart from plenty of fob battery issues (replaced mine and the bike battery is 12.8v) cant find an answer.

Interesting for sure. I wouldn't even begin to think of what the issue is other than the obvious electrical problem. Maybe a short or check your ground. Is yours as cold natured as mine is? Below 60F or 15C it takes about 5 minutes of intermittent cranking to get it going.

I was thinking something (aftermarket electronics?) maybe interfering with the immobilizer/ignition.

Is your 1200 DVT keyless?

its keyless, theres a manual button under the tank fairing which behaves the same way so the fault is likely upstream of the switches. Today its fine, but for how long? Ive booked a trip to the dealer in the hope of a fault code revealing the offending item. Maybe its the handfree relay failing, but without understanding how the system works and having the right diagnostic tools, its not much more than poking in the dark

Never figured out why but I took it to the dealer who plugged it into the DDS and couldn't find anything but synced the BBS with the ECU and so far it's been working perfectly so far....wtf??

It could still be an intermittent issue, or it may have something to do with the BBS. I don't like not knowing, but in the meantime, I'll just keep using it

I had exactly the same on BMW S1000RR Gen3

It was caused y low battery voltage but eventually it somehow damaged immobilizer. Dealer replaced it and no issues ever since.
