1299 weird problems

Interface network, the wiring harness (voltage and signaling)and the communication network that rides on this harness CAN. Get a manual and a meter and tear into it or if you don’t have the interest, as bo13r stated find some help but the issue is somewhere in that list.

CANBus/interface network all refers to the wiring harness.

Is the bike stock? Are there any obvious signs that someone has worked on it before?

I think you may need to bite the bullet and take it to the dealer.

So if its not battery or its connections, most likely next suspect is a faulty sensor. Bus issues can be hard to find without the tools but being methodical helps, a friends 1290 superduke would go into limp mode randomly and eventually after months of trying to replicate the fault it was an oil temp sensor that was out of range. Google canbus troubleshooting and go from there, plenty of guides out there if you are into DIY. Really interesting btw you'll need an oscilloscope.

Here ya go for a primer!

I think it is fixed!! Apparently the cable for one spark plug was loose and not plugged all the way in. Thanks for your suggestions! :)
I’m not convinced of this, after reading the entire thread.
a spark plug going bad is one thing and even if the cap was not on all the way I doubt it will cause the TFT indication you describe
